Default Newbie from London, UK - with a problem

Hi All,

I've just bought myself a 2004 S Type V6. Now unfortunately I bought it with a 'lock problem'. (I bought it from a work colleague who gave it for a decent price). The alarm works fine, but when manually inserting the key into all the possible locks on the doors it doesn't seem to open the doors. But everything is fine when I turn the engine on.

Now I haven't discussed this with my friend, so I'm seeking advice here... I have even got t a point where I'm getting suspicious of what he sold me. But just yesterday I got in touch with our reliable emergency locksmith in Barkingside (near our place) and they came over t have a look at it. Now it's probably my fault for not paying attention but he inserted what seemed like a replica key (or something like that) and it worked - all doors opened manually. His comments about the set of keys I had were that to simply just get it replace at the dealership and/or to have the locks checked out by Jaguar to see if anything has been replaced. I will take his judgement and go visit my dealership this Tuesday 9th, but before I'd so hopefully I could get some insight from others here? Sorry if this is in a wrong section.

Mr. Stanley

Welcome to the forum Mr Stanley,

Isn't the simplest solution just to ask the PO if it has a known fault or find out what key the locksmith used? Although a trip to your Jaguar Dealer with this issue will get it resolved, it could be very expensive.

Members with the same model may recognise this issue. Follow this link S-Type / S type R Supercharged V8 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the S-Type section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You may also like to visit the UK Region section by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-68/ to find other members in this country.

Enjoy the forum.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

As per GGG, have a chat with your friend.

He may well be able to inform you that a Valet Key will lock all the doors, but will not unlock.

I doubt that there is anything suspicious, he is a friend and colleague.

Good to see you.
