I’m excited to join this forum as at age 68 I have my first Jaguar. I live in the far north of New Zealand and have recently bought a black 1999 Sovereign XJ8 V8 4 Litre LBW. I know it has a lot of Ford in it but it’s still a Jag! It’s first owner was Government House the official residence of our Governor General, the King of England’s representative in Aotearoa New Zealand. It’s fully street legal and pretty tidy. This is a bucket list item along with a 1970 MGB Roadster.
There are several things to sort out. Sadly no key fob so looking for a work around. I’m retired so have time to play with my toys which also include RC model aircraft. I have a very understanding wife!
I’ll post photos once I’m allowed to.
So, thanks for accepting me into this forum and I look forward to interesting and helpful conversations.
The 4.0 V8 and later 4.2 and 5.0 are certainly 'real' Jaguar engines built at the Bridgend plant in Wales. Although this is sometimes described as 'part of the Ford Engine Plant' because it was next to it, JLR was entirely separate and rather more than a shed out the back. This is the Jaguar engine plant:
It has since been replaced by a new plant in England.
The earlier X300 (1995-1997) had the straight six in either 3.2 or 4.0 versions.
