About 6mos ago I had knee surgery. Prior to going under, I knew that my lifted JKU and my manual z3 coupe wouldn't be conducive to my recovery. So I took the Jeep and made a straight trade for a 2017 XE 3.5t R-Sport AWD. I've been tinkering with euros for about ten years, but this is my first British car (except the JKU, lmao). To be honest, JLR vehicles had never really landed on my radar as prospects, so I've been pleasantly surprised with this Jag thus far. Prior to making the trade I conducted an enormous amount of research on the car (Ghibli and Gulia were my contenders), so I knew I was getting something great. But when I made the trade, I only intended to keep the car for about 12mos (to finish out the warranty), then trade it in for something more powerful (2016-2019: RS7, GLC63, X4/6M Comp, F-Pace SVR, or F-Type R).
While the plan is still to move up to one of these v8 powerhouses, I'm strongly considering pushing my timeline to the right. I was sold on trading for an F-Type R ASAP, but wasn't sold on having two 2-door vehicles. So I researched the crap out of the F-Types to see if I could convince myself, and learned that these Jags have a killer reputation, and the XER that I have is really a remarkable car (I come from Audis and Bimmers). What this means is that I'll have to put a little money into the XER to satisfy my needs for a daily driver for the next year. I've started looking into mods and my list is slowly growing. I plan to put about $3k to do the following:
- resonator delete, refinish exhaust tips or replace with black ones
- window tint (probably rear tails too)
- intake
- pulley wheel
- engine tune, maaaaaaaybe trans tune
- roof rack
- wheel spacers
- lowering springs
I figure that I won't really kill the reliability of the vehicle (since this is supposed to be a car I don't have to work on, lol) and it should give the XER just enough of an edge to keep me entertained for a while. Anywho, the XER is rocking the tech package and black package (whatever that's called), otherwise it's pretty stock. So without further adieu, here's some pics!
JKU that I traded for the XER, straight swap.
XER with the coupe for comparison.
XER with my buddy's Audi 4000.
I'm usually pretty active on my car forums, at least an avid stalker. So I look forward to learning from you all as well as sharing my experiences. Thanks for reading!
