hello just bought a 1997 xj6 with 74,000 miles, showroom condition, does this year have the nikasil engine????thanks!!!and if so what is there to expect??

 

I think the answer to your question is yes, but if it is running well, then don't worry about. Nikasil is only a problem if the previous Owner, or you, feeds it cheap high sulfer fuel, which really isn't an issue these days, especially with premium grades.

If the last 6 digits of the chassis number begins with an F, for example F12345, it will have the later safe engine
Jaguar V8 cars built with a Nikasil engine can be identified by the VIN number.
If the last six characters begin with an '8' the car was fitted with a Nikasil engine.
If the last six characters begin with an 'F' the car was fitted with a Steel lined engine

 

The last six characters on my VIN # are 003678. That's preceeded by a C. No 8 or F.

Now I'm really confused!

 

Bear in mind your car is not X308s ,I believe the answer above you excludes XK Series

ok my numbers r c810934 and its a 1997 xj6 is there any other way to tell? or do i have nikasil???and if someone has put 87oct gas in it it is ruined right???but the car runs great!!(knock on wood)
