Just wanted to say hi to all as a new member. I have owned one Jag in my life, (a beatiful series 3 XJ6 that burst into flames) and have had half a dozen Porsches. My last was an immaculate 930 which I moved on to Greg Steer of West Racing Cars in Australia. We need a car now that will accomdate kids and still be a quick and capable ride, with room for perfromace upgrades.
Ok, my first question here;
I am looking at a 2000 XJR at the moment with 110,000kms on the clock. I know this is the Nikasil era car, but an inspection has come up trumps. The owner says he has used Mobil 1 since he acquired the car in 2001. Can anybody shed some light on the chances of this engine failing soon. Has the Mobil 1 likely saved this engine?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the welcome guys. As for the fire extinguisher, well it did have one. My kids were strapped in their car seats so getting them out and a safe distance from the car came first. By the time that was done, the engine bay was well alight and the flames were coming out from under the bonnet and set the window rubber alight. Well as soon as that happened, it was good night nurse. It took 15 minutes for the firies to get there and it was too late. The only salvageable parts were the rear bumper and tail lights. The funny thing is someone who was driving in the opposite direction turned around to chase us down to tell us that they could see flames coming from under the car, lol. Don't know how long I was driving along with it on fire.

Welcome to the forum and I hope you find the right replacement car.

Hi dewolf n welcomew to the forum...............sorry to hear bout your first Jag.
Why not post up a topic in either the general or model specific section asking the question? Much more likely to get the attention it needs / deserves.
All the best
Jim
