Talking Owner of X300 XJ6 INTRO

Hello all,

Been using this site a lot since I bought my first jag about 5 months ago. I own a black (dark green in some lights) 1997 x300 series (XJ6). I really love the style of this series, much more than newer cats out there (just my humble opinion :P) I feel there are some interior design flaws though, most annoying by far is the damn cup holder! (which I found an almost free way to fix, I'll share in a thread)

To be honest I hadn't planned on owning a Jag anytime soon, but when the driver of a red Dodge Ram pulled out in front of me on a 50 mph road, I effectively totaled my little '94 Geo Prizm by T-boning into the big truck's front end. Twas a good lil' ol' car, but from the ashes arose a near mint black '97 Jaguar XJ6 for $3500 with 77,000 miles. The cat had only 1 owner, a booklet of routine maintenance receipts, all owner's manuals, 2 keys with 2 fobs, the valet key, and even the Jag umbrella in the boot. Mostly everything seemed to work, from the 6-Disc changer to the heated seats... SOLD!

I was and I am still very impressed with my purchase, but needless to say problems always arise and they keep creeping up, one little thing after another.
I will try my best to share everything I have learned about x300 series Jags thus far in the hopes to learn a little something from everyone else!

You can expect posts regarding my new stereo and speaker install. I have had a successful experience with ski slope removal and interior door trim removal as a result. Successfully re-assembled with after-market components too! Feel free to ask me anything in regards to this process.

Apart from my stereo installation, I am going to start a thread in regards to what I believe is a 'Transmission Control Module' issue. I'll explain more in the thread, but very rarely and seemingly at random, while in 'Drive', the car fires itself into 'Neutral'. Sometimes I can shift back into 'Drive', but other times I must pull over and shut engine off and re-start, then all is well until it happens again. I may know of a remedy, but if anyone has experience with this I would like to know what you did.

Well, that seems good enough for an intro, as I will be posting more very soon.

Thanks for reading!

TRIZ

Thumbs up

Nice to see another newcomer with almost the same car as myself. The differences between a U.S. spec XJ6 and a U.K. spec Sovereign are pretty minor, I understand. We've both got the wonderful AJ-16 engine, 4.0 litres, which I still believe is one the the best engines of all time.
I guess I'll see you in the X300 forum !
