Default Is it a plane or a car?

I need help with an error code that keeps coming up on the mechanics computer and we can't get rid of it. The error says "flight recorder data error". I am trying to sell the car and the error is not an engine problem but a prospective buyer would question that code. I have tried all over and no one can seem to help me.

Welcome to the forum Jude Kerr,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

That's not a lot to go on. No ERROR CODE, no MODEL and no YEAR details! I'll take a wild guess it's a code P1582? If I'm right, show this to your mechanic:

If I'm wrong, add some further details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Cool More Info

I did put in the profile that it is a 2001 X-Type 3 Jag and that it has had one owner since bought in Vancouver BC in 2001. The error code is the one that you mentioned but NO one knows how to cancel it out. I would like to sell the car but I can't sell it with an engine light on on the dash and this code that I can't get rid of. Let me know if anyone has any idea how to remove this code for good!

Flight Recorder is stored data. It's harmless and not an error but cannot be cleared with a code reader or ordinary scantool. It requires Jaguar Diagnostics to clear it.

There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) about it. As a newbie, you cannot download PDF attachments from the forum so here it is as screenshots:

The only way to get it cleared is through the dealer or an independent with dealer level diagnostics.

Hello, Jude,
I would not question it at all if my car gave me a Flight Recorder Error as I usually fly pretty low! LOL
I hope you get to the bottom of that so you can sell your car at a nice profit.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
