Hi, Just joined the forum and looking at buying my first Jag. At the moment I have a front wheel drive Rover 620 Ti. I live in Denmark down a gravel road. The Rover copes fine with charging snow drifts of up to three feet, (last couple of years winter has lasted for months) Good winter tires and front wheel drive keeps the the car going. But I want an Jag, question how would a S-type do in these conditions? or should I be looking at an X-type? I have seen loads of BMW's sitting there spinning their rear wheels, when I have not noticed anything slippery. Whats your experience folks?

 

Welcome to the forum. I would take the time to ask questions in each sub-forum (section) for the cars you are interested in.

That said, a rear drive car in general are not everyone's cup of tea in winter driving conditions. I had front wheel drive and four wheel drive in the snow in addition to the past Jaguar and my current Chrysler. I happen to like rear drive in the snow and would generically say that an S Type is great in snow with good tires. I happen to live in an area of Ohio known as the "snow belt" so our winters are pretty harsh. But that is me and I am not you. So just because I think it is great you may find that you hate it. That said, had my S Type for two years and it never got stuck even going through plowed in work driveways. The same can't be said for the Chrysler, but it has really crappy tires.

Tyres are the key, as you know. My XJ40 on normal summer rubber is undriveable.
