Default Recent XK8 buyer from Bristol UK

Hi all.

Thought I had better intro myself.

Daves the name, otherwise known as Pilkie. "Pilkington"
Classics are my passion, and have been for 35yrs.

Have got a 1971 Rover P6V8 my daily driver for 11 yrs,now giving it a refresher resto.
Have a look here.
The Classic Rover Forum • View topic - My V8's makeover 2011.A respray, seat and webasto roof refurb

Also restored my 1970 Triumph TR6 in about 3 months Oct 07- Jan 08.
Have a look here.
My TR6 resto/refurb See how its going - TR Register Forum

I have had classics all my driving life including a S1 1971 XJ6 4.2 in 1980 and a S1 1973 Daimler 4.2 lwb in 1985.

Have always liked the XK8 and it was an " I will have one one day" car.
Was just waiting for the prices to become affordable.
Jag says Hi to Sid the TR6.

TR6 and Rover V8 live double decker style.

Jag lives outside, but will have a carport over him this weekend.

Late last year I finally tracked down a 1967 rhd VW Karmann Ghia 1500
that I had been searching for,for almost 2 yrs,it had sat in a totally dry garage for the last 23yrs,partially/nearly restored.
Bought it,recomissioned it in 3 months,MOT'd it and had the
registration number from it,then sold it and broke even!
You can see why I wanted it!

Welcome to the forum Pilkie,

Lots of interesting info in your intro, I'm sure the Jag is going to fit into your "family" just fine.

Very useful in being able to access forum data and mechanical info, also edit my post if I make a mistook!
Am very active on the ClassicRoverForum, and the TRRegister forum, giving help, advice, tips etc
Will be looking for a few pointers on the workings of the XK8 I am sure,as its a bit more modern than I am used to!
Will post in the relevant places re questions.

Welcome to the forum Dave, did you keep the plate to stick on the XK, or are you not that way inclined?

Nice collection you have there.

I got the number plate bug when I saw a TR6 with the plate ATR 60K,so was lucky in getting ATR 6H from the DVLA for my 1970 "H" reg TR6.
Almost won a plate for my Rover P6 that was ROV 6B,lost it by £50!
Was fortunate to spot the PLK1E reg up for sale, but owner couldnt get mot sorted as he couldnt afford to recomission it.
Took me nearly 2 yrs to track down the owner with the PLK 1E reg number, didnt know what car it was on or where it was,but luck was on my side.
It was affordable and easily restorable, and easily sellable and no real risk,so I went for it.
Put it on the Rover V8,but its an E reg plate on an old car and isnt obvious its a private one.
Then I went and bought the XK8,so put it on that.
Got something very suitable lined up with the DVLA for the Rover.
Its a bit of fun,not overly expensive,"if your lucky",can enhance a car with the right number, and its also an investment.
