Stix66rb instroduction
I'm a 80 Y/O collector since 1955, My car is an XJS 1993 6 cyl 4.2 L convert. It has 35,000 miles and looks new. It also behave like a new car but I'm bothered by the factory security system. I would like to disable it since I live in a fairly crime free area iin Cedar Rapids, Iowa and I like to use a battery cut-off as a fire prevention measure. When I reconnect the battery there is a beep every second or so and sometimes I can't stop it. Is there a fuse or plug that I could disconnect to disable the security system? I've heard that there is a plug but it also contains other functions as well, like the fuel pump ( ? ). Does anyone know how to disable the security system?
In the past I have owned two SS-100s, one of them being the rare Newsome coupe of which two were made and one survived the war- and an XK-120 and an E type 4.2 L. We loved the E type but both of us have had knee replacements and we found it hard to get into the car. The XJS is easier and more comfortable. Any ideas, Thanks, Jim S

Welcome to the forum Jim,
I'd very much like to see photos of your present and past Jaguars.
Follow this link XJS - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJS section for advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues. If the security system can be disabled, I'm sure the model experts there will be able to help.
Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US MidWest Region section by following this link Mid West US - IL IN IA MI MN MO OH WI - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.

Thank you Graham. Aside from my tech question: Is there a site associated with Jaguar Forums that offers to have you chat with a Jag mechanic for payment? Or did I get scammed. I gave my email address and credit card number as I thought this was a part of Jaguar Forums. After I gave this information, the site became inoperative- at least nothing happened. I notified my caredit card company. Jim S
Jim,
There is no payment for using any part of Jaguar Forums. It's run by IB (Internet Brands Inc) and supported by vendor advertising (you'll see the featured sponsors adverts on the right hand sidebar).
This 'direct chat' sounds like a scam. Can you post the site address or link so I can check it?

To all members of the Jaguar Forum: I was on this site and a page appeared that offered a chance to ask question of a Jaguar mechanic of vast experiecne for a fee. Thinking it was a part of Jaguar Forums I gave them my email address and creditcard number and heard nothing else from them. It is a scam, so if you see this page delete it and give the address to Graham. It might save you from having to discontinue your card. Hope this helps, Jim S stix66rb 1993 XJS 4.2 L Convert.

Hi Jim:
First, welcome to the forum. How great to have a guy like you around with such passion and experience with the Jaguar brand. Also, I bring you greetings from the Midwest Region. You may want to check in to our section of the forum to meet others in your area. I'm sure there will be XJS folks who will be able to answer your questions regarding the security system. And thank you for the heads up about the pop-up ad you received. It pays to be extra vigilant about such things.
Again, welcome!

Thanks for the weldomee Scott!! After changing the battery and using a battery cut-off, the beeping of the security system started as described by other annoyed Forum members. I was only able to stop it by pushing the button on the remote many times until the security system armed itself (the remote had a new battery) and the red light on the steering column showed steady red. Then I opened the door to set off the alarm and hit the button on the remote to turn off the alarm, which it did. Then the beeping stopped. I'm not convinced that it will work again so I'm tempted to unplug the white plug in the trunk by the antenna but am afraid of the possible ignition interlock so that I wouldn't be able to start the car. Does anyone know about the ignition interlock with regard to the factory security system in a '93 XJS convertible?? If anyone has tried to unplug the white plug on a '93 factory security system would you let me know if you were then able to start the car? I really don't want the security system. Thanks!!
