Default STR tips ?

Hello. I’m new and I’m from Bulgaria ( the Balkans ) and was wondering of buying a Jaguar S type ( the R type ). Currently owned a lot of Alfa Romeo’s ( one of witch I still have a GTV ) and some BMWs as well as my current daily a Passat V6 4 motion. Now I was lied to as the Passat being a no problem Tank and I’m really keen on selling it ( invested a lot in the automatic transmission) as there are a lot of stupid problems that pop up one after another and fixing them just gets me exhausted as this isn’t a special car but a Passat.

anyways looking at the ads locally and from around my whole country S types seem really cheap, like I have seen Golf’s and Alfa 147s costing more than these things. I even found a cheap S type R and I’m really amazed how cheap those things are. Is that the case in the UK and Europe too or is it just a local thing as we the Balkans only appreciate BMWs, Audis and MBs for some reason.
another special question is how are the transmissions on those things ? Seems like the V8s are equipped with 6hp26s. How are those ?
in terms of servicing and repairs I’m really sure it’s not cheap but me being already invested a lot in the old suspension of the Alfa ( that doesn’t have new suspension components made nowadays ) and the thousands I spend on the passats transmission I don’t think it’s a issue.

Welcome to the forums Tinom,

A well maintained example is a pleasure to own and drive but a neglected example will be a money pit.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/ to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the Europe Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/europe-42/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums and good luck finding 'your' S-Type.

Graham

Welcome to the Forums.

Graham has nailed it as usual.

Awesome car, but sadly too many neglected examples on the market.

Good luck.

From one S-type owner to another... Welcome. The S-type forum is populated with a very friendly group and contains a wealth of knowledge.

As Graham says, a poorly maintained STR will be a money pit; actually any poorly maintained S-type (supercharged or not) can become a money pit...
