Default Texas greenhorn

Hi all, My wife's father gifted her with a 1998 XK8 recently as he could no longer use it. Cosmetically, the car was great and it came with several uprgrades - K&N filter, Borla exhaust, custom body work, a carbon fiber tonneau cover, beautiful wood panels throughout the interior, etc.

Mechanically it was in fair condition and we decided to do a lot of preventative maintenance to bring the car to "daily driver" capability. PMs included new water pump, new radiator, ball joints, transmission mounts, oil pump, water pump, thermostat, timing chain, AC compressor, front shocks and shock mounts, 3rd generation timing chain tensioners, tie rod ball joints, and all new hoses/belts.

Subsequently the transmission went out and we just replaced it with a rebuilt ZF model (we couldn't find a new one at the time).

I don't know if it's okay to post recomendations for mechanics here, but if anyone is interested we have a great mechanic in Houston that specializes only in Jaguars - excellent quality work, reaonable prices.

Most recently we changed out the rear subwoofers utilizing some great info from others on this forum.

I hope now we have the Jag in fighting trim and we look forward to enjoying her for a long time!

Zach

Thanks Jim and Cigar guy for the welcome. Great forum that you have put together/maintain.

Curiously, my signature should show a pic of the car but for some reason the pic only shows on the "edit CP" page but doesn't flow thru to any posts.

Have a good one!

Welcome Zach! Wander on down to the XK8 forum and you'll find lots of help there. I'm kinda curious about your subwoofers. What kind did you install?

And Zach, if you're anywhere near Amarillo you might recognize this location. It's the rest area on I-40 east of Amarillo. This is my favorite pic of my Jag.

Hello Zach and welcome to jaguarforums.com.

If you haven’t already you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for. To do this go to, User CP, Edit Signature, Add Vehicle Details and such and Save Your Signature.

Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.

Also, should you have questions related to your vehicle please post it in the section for your model year (MY) car. This way you will reach all the members that are familiar with your MY car.

Reverend, Great pic from Amarillo. Who would have thought! I just got back from a mini-Texas road-trip in the XK. If you ever have the opportunity to drive around the vicinity of Sam Rayburn lake in East Texas I highly recommend it (Hwys 69, 190, 63). Great roads, 70mph speed limits, deep rolling hills, lakes, etc.

For subwoofers I installed the Kicker 10cvt65-4s. There have been several sucessful installs of those on the forum (XK8 Conv - Rear Subwoofer Replacement), so I decided to go with them. Once I removed a couple pieces of plastic from the Kickers, they fit perfectly into the factory mounts - screws and all. I bought a pair for $99 on Amazon. I am running them with the factory amp and they sound great. Having driven about 700mi with the top down in the past 2 days I can report that the Kickers rock even with the top down and while running at speed!
