Default What’s the best year for XJ series?

Love the classic look of the 80s XJ series of Jaguars and wonder which year and model is best and which to stay away from?

I'm assuming you're referring to the Series III sedans....not the XJS nor the late-80s "XJ40" type sedan

*Actual, present-day condition* is everything. Any design and engineering changes made as the years went by mean less now than they did decades ago. I prefer the 86-87 cars for various reasons....but a premium condition earlier car is a better choice than a ratty condition later car, and vice-versa.

Cheers
DD

The picture you have is an XJ8 or XJ8-derivative, model year 1998-2003 (for the USA Market)....often referred to as "X308" on discussion boards. It had a V8 engine.

The previous generation looks virtually identical and is often referred to as the "X300" series, model years 1995-1997 for the USA market, using 6 and 12 cylinder engines. In one of the sticky threads in the X300 section is a buyers guide that might be helpful. Not sure if there's a buyers guide for the X308 series.

The XJS that you mention is an entirely different body style

Cheers

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

The photo in post #4 is a 1997-2003 XJ8 known by the factory code X308. Follow this link XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 forum for help, advice and information.

Welcome aboard. You'll enjoy. I may be prejudice bacause I own a 2005 XJ8L, but look it up online and do a lot of research. I was and am very impressed. It comes down to making up your own mind but do your research first.
