Default X-Type losing power

Hi everyone.

This is my first time on these forums and my second Jaguar in my life. Had a 2001 XJ Sport 3.0L V6 for a few weeks then sold on. It's very nice to be here.

I now have a 2002 X-Type in white, lovely car. However, recently the car has been losing power when trying to accelerate no matter what type of ground I'm on. hill or flat it drives for approx 15 miles then starts to stutter, slow down and when pressing accelerator pedal there is very little power and have to pull over, turn off engine and then drive off again. Here's what I've tried so far;

Put Cataclean into the petrol tank (the power loss issues started after that)
Removed fuel filter blew through it, the fuel inside sprayed out the other end fine
Removed downstream O2 sensor on catalytic converter at front of car, drove round a few streets and the power still seemed very low on acceleration.
Sprayed round the air intake manifold area to see if there was an air leak, again the engine note never changed.
Cleaned throttle body, no change.

The other thing I should mention is, the EML comes on each day and the code is P0430 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold, I reset it and it takes a while til it appears again. There is another code P1000 which I believe to be a test cycle failure. Does anyone have any other ideas I could try? I'm thinking the spark plugs next?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum toakenspy,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums.

P1000 = OnBoard Tests not completed since last memory clear. With a Jaguar, you will always see this one or P1111 (OnBoard Tests complete).

P0430 = Catalytic converter system efficiency below threshold (Bank 2). This indicates a problem with an HO2 Sensor.

Follow this link X-Type - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X-Type section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Default Possibly Solved

Well here's an update folks. Took it to a garage who scanned the car for codes, LOADS. Cleared them all and took it for a drive to suspect clogged catalytic converter. Solution, get 2 bottles of Cataclean, put £10 of super unleaded (the good stuff) in the car and one bottle of Cataclean. Motorway driving for 30 mins or so to burn it through, worked a charm!! no more shuddering or power loss. I then put another £10 of super unleaded and the other bottle of Cataclean. Car drives much better now, think I will use super unleaded more often. Thanks to everyone who submitted their views and help on this.

Good to hear the car is running well.

Did you take a note of the LOADS of codes? Many codes are triggered appear after a repeated fault on two drive cycles. Always helps to know if something is a completely new event or a recurrence.

Unfortunately not, it was the garage who scanned it and cleared it. The P0463 cat code no longer appears withthe EML either now so if I use super unleaded and a bottle of cataclean every couple of months then I'm sure it would help keep the catalytic converter clean.

An 'Italian Tune Up' can give similar results - flat out for a few miles.

Unfortunately if you live anywhere near the 'safety' camera infested A9, this won't be an option!
