Welcome to the forum kogilan,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Expertise is never cheap but I got a surprise at the labour when I converted 20k Rand to UKP. Add on the spares you've already bought and this is going to be a very expensive repair. Just to put this into perspective - what's a 2005 XJR worth in SA?
Follow this link XJ XJ6 / XJ8 / XJR ( X350 & X358 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X350 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

i don't know what a durban dollar equates to, but 20k of any currency is too much except the yen . not that it is not possible to spend 20k on this engine !
you can get a good working engine for around $4k,nzd from ebay .
and you can afford to ship an engine from far and still save $.
id go that route . maybe find out this mechanics hourly rate before going any further . at this point you only owe him for disassembly .
