XK8 Issues
I bought my 1997 Jag XK8 about two years ago. It is a lovely British Racing Green with coffee upholstery and has only about 60,000 miles on it. The previous owner told me that the plastic timing chain follower problem had been repaired and it seemed to be in very good condition. I did have to replace the leather driver seat cover (and had to buy a set to get just one, so if anyone needs a coffee front seat cover, let me know). Then, I discovered that the ZF transmission had a weak part -- called the drum -- that was failing. It was hard to find a mechanic willing to take it on, and harder still to find a German made part. About $5,000 later (only slightly less than I paid for the car), and after replacing some of the ignition coils, it is now running well. It is quite a nice car, but not worth the investment which is substantially more than I could sell the car for. Oh, well. This is my third Jaguar: a 1950 sedan and an XJ 12 sedan. It will probably be my last.

Hello, Carl,
Congratulations on all your successful repairs to your XK8!
I don't think any of us here buy these cars as "investments."
Probably that's a good thing, because few if any of us will ever get back what we're "invested" in keeping them right.
We buy/keep them because we LIKE them.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
