The Other Car Hobby: Porsche 928
As with many other car aficionados, one vice is just not enough. I've been a Jaguar nut since birth, but have since branched out into the world of Porsche. Specifically, the 928. Front-mounted, water-cooled, V8-GT car. Lots of fun.
A few shots from the International 928 Convention in 2009. Arlington, Texas.

Many years ago, I ran into an Indy shop owner one day in Atlanta's West Marine. He was telling me about just finishing Ron Gant's maintenance on his Lamborghini, and what an incredible machine it was. He's maintains a bunch of Ferrari's and Lambo's.
He was telling me that the Porsche 928S is what he drove. While it was not the best at doing anything, it was right at the top of performance lists--for its day. And, the price was right for the later model year cars.

I owned a Felsen Grun Metalic Porsche 928 S4 Sport for many years and it was my daily driver. Indeed I used to drive it to the Jaguar Adv engineering centre, daily. I used to also be into Older BMWs.
I helped a friend stretch his racing 928 out to 7.5 litres-complete with redrilled oil ways in the 928 international 8 counterweight crank shaft. It has a robust engine. The handling is also surefooted. I have good memories of this car, but then I went to the 911/993.
I only got into personal Jaguar ownership recently. I also got into classic American Muscle and pick up trucks. Perhaps I'm regressing as I grow older

Curious to know whether you are finding parts becoming difficult to get for your '88? Also have your found the bills for service and repair of a 928 reasonable or the same as other cars or much more expensive?
When I was a kid my father's friend had one of the first 78 928's in Canada and I will always remember till the day I die the sheer joy of riding in that car on the way to elementary school!
Thanks and great pictures.

For those who believe the 928 and 944 were "ugly", tell the truth, I really don't like the looks of any of the models out today. Their styling is (in my opinion) just a continuation of the 911 of the early 1960's. The 944 and 928 were in comparison, original and different. I like that in a car....

If looks alone were the only criterion, then IMHO the 928 is still the best Porsche ever, especially with the wide bodied Strosek versions.
(oh Doug, spent a whole day in the back seat of a 924 on a property search for clients, talk about trying to unfold myself afterwards!!) Never again.
