Default Anyone Looking to Buy an 2005 STR?

Well while searching for an XFR I finally found one I am interested in getting.

But I now need to sell my 2005 S Type R. 111K miles, Chrome Vulcan wheels, Mina SS mesh Grilles, Mina Boxes (Rear Mufflers), Navigation (comes with original disc and the 2010 updated disc), ACM for IPOD and USB, All service done, Transmission pan/sleeve/bolts changed.
Akebono Ceramic brake pads so no dust!

Car has updated SC pulley/belt done by dealer. No squeaking!

Almost all coolant hoses changed except the under SC one. But all seals/gaskets and hoses to change this come with the car. DCCV changed, AUX coolant pump changed, Thermostat changed,New plugs at 95K miles. No check engine lights and no codes. P/S pump changed, A/C compressor and dryer changed and A/C vacuumed and refilled.

No rust 2 owner southern US car in the Houston area. I have had some body work done to repair fading clear coat and I hit a deer in the drivers side front several years ago. This required a new hood and HID headlight.

Perfect leather. Car is Liquid silver with a black interior. I have replaced both sun visors and repaired several cracks in the wood trim. No cracks in wood trim! Replaced front defroster panel

Tires good with the fronts needing replacement in the next 10K miles or so.

I have owner the car since 32K miles and have used it for 6+ years as my daily driver.

What's it worth?

Best of luck with your sales effort. Although you've kept yours properly maintained, you already know that the demand for our S-Types is minimal now. I hope you can indeed get what you want for it....

If you are thinking of selling your car, now is the time of year to do it. Everything I've read has indicated that tax season, February to late-April, is the best time to sell.

After six years of STR ownership, I too will be listing my 105k mile car any day now. Like you, I've had all major work performed, including the under the supercharger hose. It is definitely bittersweet.

I am thinking mine is worth $9,500 to $10,500, so probably fairly similar for yours, +/- $500.

Good numbers! Thank you for that.

I really like the Kyanite blue and finally found one.

I went and drove the XFR. Certainly improved over my STR in almost every way. No adjustable pedals? Seems a strange thing to drop.

But the improvement is just not that much for the price difference involved. Now I know, as all of you do, that the S Type has been left for dead years ago but I think we are all (including myself here!) still fooling ourselves.

The dealer offered me $3000 and actually showed me the Manheim auction results for 2005 STR's. Surprised that there were 6 sold in the last couple of months and the very low prices! High was $14K for one with 22K miles all the way down to $1800 for one with 127K miles and in poor condition.

The 2012 XFR is $49K and mine is worth $3K. It's such a difference and while driving back from the dealer I found I still like the STR. It's in such good shape there is no way I could even come close to the car I have for $3000 so I think I will be with the S Type for a while longer.

Funny thing is I have the money to buy the XFR so it's not so much that as how good my 2005 still is!

Now the dealer was very cool too! They had a Hell Cat and it was going to Australia! Suppose to be the first and only one there. Big money because they sold the car for $78K and it has to be converted to RHD plus pay all the taxes and shipping too. Total will be about $170K-$180K when all done.

Glad to see that you've come to your senses. Trading a well-maintained STR for $3,000 against an XFR selling for $49,000 is indeed financial insanity. I wouldn't consider that deal even if I had a spare million or two lying around the house....

Yes I guess it still shows what a great value the S Type is if you keep it up yourself. The repairs can be expensive but with this list and the Lincoln LS equivalent parts it has been and still is a very reasonable car to own.

Much to my surprise!

+1
I'm also happy to hear you won't be leaving the S-type forum. Your comments and advice have been invaluable.

I have an 03 STR, I am the original owner. Car has always been garaged, never driven in the rain, 12,000 miles. Black/Black with nav and Gray wood trim. It's like new. It's probably only worth about $11,000 per NADA, so might get $9000 for it. I don't plan on selling, but I don't think a comparable BMW or Mercedes of the same year would be worth anymore. You can't think of resale when buying a car, you just have to enjoy.

While you may not think of resale, it is indeed wise to think of depreciation. That factor alone has caused me never to purchase new since 1997. Finding, researching, and purchasing our vehicles for pennies on the dollar preserves precious capital for the associated maintenance, repairs, insurance, and property taxes....

I agree, there is a certain price you pay for being the original owner. I agree and would never put myself in a financial bind over any vehicle. But if someone works hard, can afford it and wants to reward themselves I see no problem. For the most part cars are a depreciating asset and never an investment. Rare classic cars excluded, and even then they are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them.
