Default Help with "smart" battery minder in UK/Euro market

Feedback to our write-up "Battery 101 for S-Type Jaguar" shows that the recommended PowerTech Plus 7Amp "intelligent" MB3606 charger may not be widely available outside the Asia/Australasia/Pacific markets. It is important that relevant info be added to ensure universal application, so fellow US member [Jumpin'JagFlash] is preparing an addendum for that market.

I now need help from any UK/Euro member who has read the write-up and is using a similar "fully intelligent" unit, to pen some words with links and pics to add to the write-up ... perhaps 1-2 pages max. We are aware of the excellent C-TEK units in the range of 3.8 to 7Amps (@GBP40-90 incl VAT); and their use by several members. Time is not critical, but great if we get the final doco into the FAQs soon.

A brief reply post here will confirm your interest, but then PM me ...
  • set out use of car, garaging if any;
  • why you chose your particular solution;
  • explain the set-up and why;
  • what challenges if any and your solutions;
  • any other recommendations for members;
Back this up with a couple of pics (installation; inside boot; close-up of unit at work). You will be recognized as a co-contributor, so you may be showered with instant fame ... amass great wealth ... but really all I can promise is lots of thanks and a warm fuzzy feeling.

Any takers ... ?

Ken

Good man Timmyboy ...

I'll be away at our big All British Car Day over the weekend, but I'll look forward to getting your C-TEK material on my return. I will PM you my email address so you can include pics as separate attachments.

Any other takers ... perhaps an alternative to C-TEK? Just remember it needs to have general availability across your region.

Best wishes,
Ken

Ken- Hope you're well.

Not quite what you're asking out, but a very well respected and popular brand available everywhere in North America is 'Deltran Battery Tender'

http://batterytender.com/

and in particular

http://batterytender.com/battery-ten...fficiency.html

I use them almost exclusively on all the toys, very satisfied.

Hello Mikey ... great to hear from you mate, and yes ... life goes well. You also?

Especially great to hear from you on this subject, because I know we share a kindred concern that, for many "newer to the S-Type" the perils of a dying battery inevitably lead to needless worry and expense.

Mikey, would you do me a favor and PM [Jumpin' Jag Flash] as per his posts in the related thread "Battery 101 for S-Type", who has offered to prepare some words, links, and pics on (I think) the same unit you mention.
  • 2 heads better than 1 ... local pricing/availability issues?
  • Canada as well as USA ... a North America wide solution?
  • his is a "park out in the weather" challenge; yours different?
I will PM you with my email address in the event that you wish to send me any pics that we can add into this important addendum.
Warmest wishes Mikey,
Ken

Hey, fellas!
I just wanted to jump in here and confirm that I will submit a short write-up with pics showing how I use the Deltran Battery Tender for my situation - car sits in my driveway, run the charge cable out the boot and into the BT positioned on a shelf in my garage.

I do not keep the BT unit in my boot although it is probably rugged enough to do so. I just don't feel good about driving around with it there getting jostled about, notwithstanding its 10 year warranty.

So give me a few days to submit my tome and pics.

Mikey - I'm not sure but I may have gotten the idea for the Battery Tender from one of your posts so thank you for that. It's worked out great, esp since it pretty much rules out low battery charge as a cause of any codes.

I'd be interested to know how you use your Battery Tender. Please elaborate when you have some time.
regards,
Steve

We're doing just fine here- despite summer not really having made decent appearance. The poor boat sits at the dock pretty much ignored.

See comments below to Steve. We can take it to PMs to avoid hijacking your thread aimed at our UK/Euro cousins.

Glad to hear that this product has worked well for you too. The two cars I store for the winter are kept in an unheated attached garage. I remove the batteries from the other toys and bring them inside for the storage season. The cars have hard-wired leads to the battery with the supplied in-line quick disconnect plugs. As a reminder to myself, I loop the extension cord over the driver's mirror to remind me not to just motor away in the spring without unplugging the tender. I use the alligator clips for the other batteries. My durability record for a battery was 13 years, this being an AC Delco unit in the Corvette. Not bad!

Default Addenda - (1) North America (2) UK & Europe

OK ... Steve & Mikey ... leave it with you 2 guys to collaborate on the Deltran as best you see fit; then get me your story/links/pics when convenient. I like the idea that you may be able to present different approaches.

For the UK, [Timmyboy] has offered the same based on the C-TEK.

Anyone from Europe prepared to contribute? Just remember, this is neither a writing contest nor a photo competition. We just want good factual data that members in each region can rely on.

Please post if you can help.
Best wishes,

Ken

Wow! Well worth the investment in the Battery Tender. Thanks for the info. I'll PM when I get my pics together.

Steve
