Default 0-60

I'm curious why 0-60 time is different than the xjr....they have the same exact Supercharged engine and the S-Type R weighs less... Internet searches show that the XJR is about a half a second faster than the S-Type R..... Anyone??????

Different cars off the production line, different weather, different drivers, etc?

Also Jaguar would not want the S-Type R to look faster than the XJR...

Different rear axle gearing? Maybe the S-Type has numerically lower gearing for better economy, but at the expense of acceleration. Just a guess.

+1! Years ago, I had a Lincoln factory equipped with the same basic engine as the Mustang Cobra. Supposedly the Lincoln version was slightly detuned, so the "sedate" sedan did not look better on paper than its little punk cousin.

I believe you have that backwards. The XJR is aluminum. Check your sources.

I believe the hood and trunk lid of the face-lift S-Type are aluminum. The rest is steel.

Always enjoy a good preformance thread on our Jags. As JagV8 mentioned on any given day depending on conditions, tires, tire condition and loads of factors not limited to even the surface your on, 0-60 times can and do often vary.

For me a quick google search revealed that the XJR for 2006 had a 0-60 of 5 seconds. Whereas the S Type R was a little slower. Motorweek interestingly enough has the S Type R quoted at 5.3 0-60 but real world results can be quite different.

For instance take how most of these magazines measure 0-60. Some use a 1 foot rollout meaning they don’t start the timer till 1 foot after the standing start position.

If we then take that method of measurement, and then apply it to the real world, we can see my 06 S Type R had a 0-60 time of 4.5 second with the “1 foot rollout” applied. Where as from a dead stop it was 4.7 seconds. This is just one example, and the difference is 2/10th of a second between 0-60 from a dead stop and 1 foot rollout.

Just an interesting example I thought I’d throw out there. The devices I used is called a Dragy for anyone that’s interested. I’d be happy to link the one I bought if there’s any interest for it. I’ve compared it to time slips I’ve gotten at the drag strip and it’s virtually identical. Rather impressive for such a small device.
