I`m new to this forum and i am in need of some help. I bought a 2000 jaguar s type 3.0L as a non runner. I installed a new engine in it (had a hole in the block from rod failure) and when i went to test drive i noticed i had no reverse. The R lights up on the shifter flour, you can kind of feel it kick in to reverse but it just revs up. if you feather the gas a little bit it will move a tiny bit backwards. i jack the rear end of the car and it will spin in reverse but not under a load. Transmission fluid is full. This car has The 5R55N tranny. Im wondering if it has a bad valve body, band, or solinoid pack. all gears work but reverse. any help would be great.

welcome to the forum might I ask that you follow forum protocol and properly introduce yourself in the "New Member Area" found here:

I would also recommend putting your vehicle details, ie. year, model, motor into your signature as well, very easy to do following the directions located in "UserCP"

Gear selection problems on this gearbox are often caused by stretched selector cables. Have a look at the set-up on the car and see if there is any play in the cable.

Ok please note this before proceeding on this topic:
Since Ayeboah hasn't stated what year, model and engine we will be chasing our tails on his questions.
Wasting my time I found that he has a 2002 X Type which I believe might just have a total different transmission IDK. Just a heads up.
