Hello, Im new hear, I love my car. I recently had minor work done on my transmission. Ever since then i have neem getting a "transmission fault" error code. It comes on by it self then goes away when i restart it. This mechanic is telling me that Im suppose to have some expensive oil in the transmission oil. Am i being taken for a ride???

With these cars, make absolutely certain your battery voltage is acceptable ( 12.5 vdc or better). Low battery voltage makes the electronics in these cars act mad, so your " transmission error ( gearbox fault) might not be a transmission problem at all, just a low battery voltage (

Anyway, your car '02 and older uses the Ford 5 speed 5R55 transmission which uses a common Ford auto trans fluid ( Mercon or Mercon V, look it up for sure.
Model years 2003 ( 2002.5 in UK, and maybe row rest of world) and up use the ZF 6HP26 6 speed transmission that uses a more expensive at fluid. I think thats where your mechanic is misinformed hopefully. Hope this helps! BTW, what minor work was done to your trans?
