Does anyone know how to separate the "mirror portion" (part that folds) from the mounting "base" that attaches to the car on a 03+ facelifted door mirror? I had a little incident with a garage door a few months ago, and ever so slightly cracked the outer frame of the mirror. I also folded it all the way back the wrong way....

Now, I got a new external plastic cover, but you can still see the damage if you get up close.

I realized that the X-type and S-Type use the same door mirror, BUT that the mounting base (triangular portion with 3 bolts, and the bottom of that pivot) is different.

X-type mirrors are a dime a dozen on ebay, S-type ones go for a small fortune if you can find a post facelift one.

Anyone know how to take one apart, and put it back together? Is this even possible?
