Default 03 STR needs front and rear struts.

Mechanic "was" to install H&R Sport Springs when he happened upon worn/leaking front struts, passenger outer tie-rod, and rear stabilizer links. Looking for the most affordable vender.

Also NAPA has some of the suspension parts at a pretty reasonable price.

She has 97k on the clock, front struts leaked, front passenger outer tie-rod worn, and rear adjustment tie-rod (?) worn. Basically replacing suspension before H&R Sport Springs go in ($$$). I'll compare NAPA and others for availability and price. Thanks to all for guidance.

At that sort of mileage and with the rougher riding sport suspension it's not unreasonable. Especially where you and I live - pothole USA.

Are these electronic shocks rebuildable or a Jaguar only item?
It's hard to believe that there's an aftermarket for STR shocks.

I search before for jaguar replacement electronic shocks, never found outside jaguar. But, you can switch to non electronic (all 4 for less that 2 electronic) and unplug the cats module in the trunk so you dont have a cats system fault and you effectively converted your car as if they were never there. Matter of fact, replacment body harnesses all come with eletronic shock wiring harness. That way it fits both styles, cats system and non cats

Brutal;
We are now seeing some failures of the CATS strut/shocks. At what mileage can we expect this to start?

I know it depends but are you replacing many yet? Can you give a rough estimate of the cost of these electronic units? I am glad we can drop back to a non-CATS system but think the car will have the best balance of ride to handling with the CATS active?

I guess I can unplug the CATS module temporarily to get an idea of how big a change in ride/handling I feel?
Thanks for your time!

clubairth, the average price of the CAT struts are $400/each. The fronts leaked and possibly the rear too. With this worn suspension the ride is marshmellow-like; with out the dampening. There are no aftermarket electronic struts for the S-Type. JagBits quoted me $375/each. Today I picked up the passenger front tie-rod end for $70. My NAPA store special ordered it and came next day. JagBits wants $290 for a Jaguar tie-rod. BRUTAL's suggestion of switching to conventional struts could happen.

Has anyone looked in the UK (Or USA) for a company that might rebuild them? I remember someone mentioning the vendor that supplied the shocks but I don't remember who it was.

Default This threads lists replacement shocks

I just spotted this today about Monroes shocks.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...9&postcount=16

I wonder if they work properly or not?

Update: They don't.

The struts offered by RockAuto are for the standard (non CATS) suspension. In other words: You can use them but won't have electronic ride control. My struts are wiped and I'm going with a standard strut along with H&R Sport Springs. We can leave wire to struts disconnected and disconnect plug from CATS module in trunk (no codes or warning lights will be thrown or on).

Don't throw them away. Eventually they might be rebuildable.

My front left strut is leaking too, and I'm going to replace it. Is it approrpriate to only change 1, or should both fronts be swapped at the same time.

Hi Chris, Two days ago I ordered a pair of the front (pair) of the stock CATS (adaptive electronic dampening) struts from JAGBITS for $700/pair (had a 5% coupon). They were $375/each but with coupon it came to $350/each. I used to install one instead of pair, now got out of that habit as there will likely be a performance difference from one side to the other causing uneven tire wear and tracking instability. Go with a pair. H&R Sport lowering springs are going in with the new struts. Let us know your thoughts.

Pushing_tin, just call JagBits. Have your VIN handy and they'll do the rest. Very good customer service. Tell em bfsgross form the Jaguar Forum sent ya and they may knock off some $. They'll ultimately sell em to ya for $350/each.

I have tried them about 5 times now for various parts and Nalley or Gaudin has always been cheaper. If I can find out the part numbers I'll cross shop again. If the prices are about the same I always go with a site sponsor.
