04 S-Type Brakes & EPB Issue
Hello All.
I recently changed the pads and rotors on my 04 S-Type (all around). I've noticed that the rears seem to be getting pretty hot (smoking) even for short trips when car was previously cold. Also noticing a smell of something burning.
When I changed out pads/rotors, I did not lubricate anything or mess with anything, besides anti-squeal grease. I put ceramic pads on. The calipers were the kind that need to be turned in with a tool.
Took it in today for an estimate and they said both rear rotors are binding, and the epb cable is not releasing either. I inquired about the epb and he made it sound like it's happening on both sides, but that only one cable is the issue, before splitting off to each tire. They implied that the rotors are the biggest problem and if I did those, they could try lubricating the ebp cable.
Any thoughts on how I can handle this myself? I know just enough to get myself in trouble situations like these! Thanks!

I did make sure the EPB was not engaged, prior to doing the work.
I did not recalibrate, but I did not get an error message that some people have talked about. I've not had an error or any message display on dash about brakes (or anything) since doing the job.
I did take off rear tires in attempt to spin without epb engaged. It was somewhat difficult, but I was able to rotate. Not sure how easy it should be to spin, and not sure if maybe epb is only slightly binding?
Not sure what to do now...
Thanks much for helping!

Yes. You live in the salt belt and you need to get under the car and see whats rusted up.
My bet is the cables are the problem and need to be replaced. BUT take a look before just changing parts out.

Remove the wheels and have a helper apply/release the EPB. The caliper lever should travel all the way to it's stop when the EPB is released.
+1
Do the recal first. It's easy and costs nothing but a few minutes of your time. If it doesn't solve your problem look at what might be hanging the EPB cable up. This is all assuming the wheels turned freely when the caliper was completely off.
