Default 2000 4.0 V8 driver side valve cover removal

Hello, I've searched the archives without much luck and if someone can help me it would be appreciated.

Recently purchased a 2000 S-type v8 and it needs coils/plugs/valve cover gaskets. I have the passenger side off no sweat, the driver side I'm running into a snag - can that oil fill neck come off? I'd rather not let go any fuel lines to get the clearance I need, but is it the only way?

Thanks fellas.

fair enough, at what point do I disconnect? I tried pulling at a couple points but it didn't seem to want to budge. Wish I had sized it up before hand, would of pulled the fuel pump fuse while she was running to clear the lines.

While you have the cover off inspect the tensioners to see if they have been upgraded.

You do know about the 4.0L V-8 and the timing tensioner problems?

Do you have the fuel line release tool? They come in different sizes and must be used to separate the fuel line connections.

The fuel line is disconnected at the chrome connection to the fuel rail line. A common FORD type tool is used to disconnect these fittings.

At the piece with the green clip on it? I'll google this common FORD tool since I only have a GM fuel line quick connect removal tool which definitely won't work here.

I've read about the tensioner problems, and this car still has the plastic ones which don't appear cracked but, they're still crappy plastic.

From what I gather I have to dive alot deeper than just removing valve covers to do that job, which I probably won't get into on this repair. The only timing chain I ever done was on a nissan ka24e, which is a much simpler setup than this lol

**edit - on second thought, maybe I'll at least do the upper tensioners. I visually checked what I could and nothing has cracks in it from what I see.

Lisele 37000 kit for the win, driver valve cover off, thanks fellas.

Between the zip tie method or purchasing the cam anchor tools, I'm going to replace the brown/red-ish tensioners too.

Done quite a few I see! lol

Just ordered the new tensioners with bolts from Christophers Foreign Car Parts.

And from all the reading I did today, I'll most likely do the ziptie method.

So yeah, more than meets the eye. Thanks for planting the idea in my head to do those tensioners. Once I started reading, it pretty much told me I couldn't NOT do it while I was in there and that close. It was easier than initially expected.

They looked ok in place...but here they are removed, along with some plugs that have boiled some oil in the plug wells for quite some time. (the beer is a homebrew from the sister in law!)
