Default 2000 type S won't rev up more than 3k rpm

Hello!
I got a 2000 type S not long time ago so the first thing I did was replace all the timing parts with the new updated ones since all of the old ones were all cracked.
Now the problem is that after doing all this ,I started the car and it ran fine but didn't rev it up more than 2k thinking everything is fine.
The next day , I started it and after it warmed up , I tried to rev it up a bit and noticed that it won't go more than 3k rpm floored.
I have a red light on right next to the odo , car has 100k miles, no check engine light yet.
Any ideas as to what is causing this problem??
After reading here on the forum looks like the red light is a fail safe mode.I can drive the car but it won't rev more than 3k.Is there a way to reset the red light mode??
Thanks

I am probably the last one to know with very knowledgeable people on the site but after changing all those things, could it be a needed reset? And maybe a little more specific on exactly which parts you replaced.

The engine management will not allow more than 3000 revs to protect engine whilst in Park

Cb..., amadeuss may have hit the nail on the head. A hard re-set of the ECU is often in line as a means to clear the ECU and begin fresh.

You need to get the codes read somehow. Any big box auto parts store rents them for free basically, just give a refundable deposit.

Then post codes here.

Might not be the case. MY 2004 3.0 will rev to red line in N or P. (I only know this becasue while recording the exhaust I asked my wife to REV it a bit, she punched it!!! And held it down till I yelled.) So I checked it out for my self and sure enough, I have no N or P early rev limiter. WTF?

To the OP, yea try a re-set. It MIGHT help. But you need to post more information, to get more help.

X2 to Shultz...more info. Check the battery too. May behave strong but be weak in a cell when under Amp. load.

I have the same year car and I had Chrysler LHS that had the same limits when in park. It is to keep some people from over reving the engine and breaking something!

2000-02 s-types wont rev above about 3k in park. Later cars will. this is intentional and is to protect the trans (ford 5-speed auto) take a picture of the red light and post it please. A hard reset is disconnecting the battery for over a minute and then touching the terminals together. this is only a hard reset and will not clear all codes. get a code scanner and post the codes as well.

Sorry. My 2005 STR will not rev over 3K rpm in N or P. It's a software limit like was posted above.

When I disconnected the negative battery terminal it removed the check engine light and made me reset the radio and the car memory seat thingee! Leave it off for awhile an see what happens. Who knows! I forgot to reconnect one plug wire and the car wasn't happy.

Are you sure the cam shafts are put back exactly the way they were before you changed the cam chain tentioners. If the timing is off or not the same as what ECM has recorded it may tell you that the car is not ready to go yet! If you locked them in place somehow they should be ok . I only did the secondary tentioner at fifty thousand and moved the lower cams on the 4.0 engine. They had barely any wear . Only one on the right bank had any sign of the chain rubbing on them.
