Default 2001 jaguar wont start

I changed the check engine soon light in dash but i think while connecting and disconnecting my battery i shorted out something. My battery was no good and I got a new one. Car use to try to start but now it wont say a word. Could it be the starter? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure you re-connected everything back correctly? Never heard of a CEL bulb going out but I guess it can happen...

Clean the battery terminals and are you sure the new battery is juiced up?

Battery in right. Battery is fully charged but vehicle says not a word. I think maybe the starter went out from trying to start it so much? Does anybody know where the starter is located? underneath the car? Can I test the starter without taking to a shop? Any other suggestions?

I would first start by checking the associated fuse and relay to the starter. The starter is located underneath the engine. Some say it's difficult to get to but I don't see how that could be...

Check fuse in trunk and it is good. Is the relay one of the bigger fuses? Not sure how to check it. Car still says nothing. Could disconnecting and reconnecting battery cause a short somewhere? I really appreciate all the advice!!!!!!

Make sure your security system/alarm isn't locking the starter out. Changing the battery can trigger the security system. Are you using the original or Jaguar key, or a knock-off copy that might not have the chip imbedded? I would unlock the door with the key (lock it then unlock it if its already unlocked) and then try again and see if that does anything.

Yes using original key and fob. Did procedure but still no power. I do her a click at top engine when i turn key. also will hear a slight hum manifold. Triple checked fuses. I see the solenoid fuse and fuel injection fuse will not light up until key turned. Other light up upon checking without key turned. Does this mean anything?

If you turn the headlights on + crank do they go out?
If so check the battery leads, the crimp to the terminal can go bad, also clean the earth point for the -ve lead.

Wow thanks for replying. Check lights and crank and lights stay on full blast but nothing on start. Strange for a starter to just completely go out. Strange this happens after removing and replacing cel light. No problems with starter prior. It must be electrical. Dont know what else i can check or how to check it.

The usual next suspect in cases like this, when you've already checked the usual suspects (bad battery, power or ground, etc) is something that occurred during the work done (plug that fell out, trapped wire, etc).

Also, the TSBs include a very detailed one about non-start condition.

Check for power at the starter when the key is in the "start" position (will need another person). If it has power then the starter is bad. You can also try smacking (not too hard!) the starter solenoid with a hammer while someone is cranking it as well, and if it fires up, then you know the starter is toast.

You never answered the most important question posted above? What is the security system doing? The red light in the middle of the dash up by the windshield. These cars have a pretty good anti-theft system.

took everything back apart and checked dismantling of dash. Everything looks good. Jumped the starter and it appears to be working. I have power to starter but it seems as if the second leg when ignition turned is not supplying power. For some reason the computer appears not to send power to starter to ignite starter.

Any advice? could my key to ignition be deactivated? I hear fuel pump come on with turn. Would a circuit in the speedometer be blown and tell car not to start? Helppp

Oh just saw security question. It blinks when I lock car and shut off when I unlock. At ignition turn it comes on for about 3 seconds and then goes off.

You are in Park (red P illuminated)?
Try to start in N in case the transmission switch is bad.
It can do no harm to do a hard reset (ign off, disconnect battery ground, touch ground lead on battery +ve for 10 secs, reconnect battery ground)
Download the electrical diagram
http://www.captainjaguarscathouse.co...ec%20Guide.pdf
Check (swap) the starter relay.
If you jump the starter does the car start?
If so I don't think it is a security problem because the ignition won't work.
If you look on P44 you'll see the starter wiring so you can check volts from the ignition switch, instrument pack etc.
