What you could do is have the key in the position it is when started. Take an insulated spanner and place it across the starter. Not too sure if you have the room for that under the bonnet though. But it would take the solenoid out the picture and see if it turns over. If it does then it may be the ignition barrel that is at fault.

This is a bit of a dodgy suggestion but may prove it to be the ignition barrel. I have had to do this on a few BMW's I have had previously( they are prone for ignition barrels).

If the starter appears to be working, have you done the other basics:

Check for spark
Check for proper fuel pressure

If these are good, then you might want to check the crankshaft sensor and cam position sensors. These are important to the engine being able to start. Look on the internet for some testing procedures.

Below is some information on what the crankshaft sensor does:

The functional objective for the crankshaft position sensor is to determine the position and/or rotational speed (RPM) of the crank. Engine Control Units use the information transmitted by the sensor to control parameters such as ignition timing and fuel injection timing. The sensor output can also be related to other sensor data including the cam position to derive the current combustion cycle, this is very important for the starting of a four stroke engine.
Sometimes the sensor may become burnt or worn out. The most likely causes of crankshaft position sensor failure are exposure to extreme heat when you have a gasket or crank problem, corruption from oil or other engine fluids that leaked onto the sensor, or wear over a long period of time. When it goes bad, it stops transmitting the signal which contains the vital data for the ignition and other parts in the system.
A bad crank position sensor can worsen the way the engine idles, the pistons fire, or the acceleration behavior. If the engine is revved up with a bad or faulty sensor, it may cause misfiring, motor vibration or backfires. Accelerating might be hesitant, and abnormal shaking during engine idle might occur. In the worst case the car may not start.

This may not be the issue, but I would check some other things beyond just battery related issues.

Good luck!

Default Jaguar wont start

Ok if this helps anyone I had to take to Jaguar specialist after 2 other mechanics could not figure out why car would not start. Well Jaguar says it was a fuse!!!!! They put one in and charged me 100.00! Not sure which fuse changed but I will find out. Car driving again and check engine soon light working fine! Got a cat code for bank 1 on cat. I was told to try some c foam and see if that will get rid of code at lease temp. Any suggestions from anyone. p0430 I know this could be a list of items or even a software glitch.

Did you find out which fuse? I'm chasing a ghost and any/all leads are appreciated.

If your car has 240K miles just change the O2 sensor! With that kind of mileage anything is likely to go out. I would also suspect a cat failure with the age and miles. Have the cats ever been changed?

The V-6 is known for vacuum leaks that are cheap to fix. So look at the known trouble spots like the vacuum elbow and the IMT valves.

Have the coils and plugs ever been changed? If maintenance has not been done it can build up into multiple problems.

Did you ever find out which fuse they replaced so your car would start?
