Default 2001 S Series wont turn over

Hello- first time posting, hoping you guys can help me.

I had some fault codes read today, after the car would not turn over. Since the battery was weak I decided it would be a good time to change it our. When I change out the battery the alarm went off, I was not able to hit the key Fob to get it to stop, but instead needed to put the key in the ignition. Sadly we had the same problem with the new battery. The lights come on but the car will not turn over. Feels like an anti theft issue but can't make it go.

Some things I tried:

Locked and unlocked doors with FOB
Turn on and off the panic with the FOB
Cycled the gears

NO LUCK PLEASE HELP!

Welcome to the forum Gora1ders,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help section to S-Type section. Members here with the same model as you have will be able to help. You should add details of the actual codes for the best advice.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST section and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

On mine it is in the center of the dash visible through the windshield. It is the red light that flashes.

Did you check the starter relay in the engine fuse box. Big yellow fuse?

Default Update

I have gone back to the car. I am able to use the Key fob to make the alarm light turn off. I checked the fuse in the passenger area for starter relay. I disconnected the battery for 30min and checked voltage at the battery and the fuse box in the trunk. When I connected the battery I was able to see the alarm light blinking, I then used the FOB to turn it off, still the same problem of not turning over.

Everything else seems to be working, dash lights, steering adjustment, windows, lights, radio, and heater fan.

Any other help would be great!

The red light blinking leads me to think that your security system might be confused or thinks it is being tampered with.

Can you remove your lighter relay inside by passenger door its the only yellow relay and replce with your starter relay in the engine bay . They are the same i did it with mine when it would not start.

The hand brake is on when you are trying to start the engine ???.
If the hand brake is on try starting the engine in neutral and not in park.

Ok new update...had the car towed home. Jacked it up and look at the start (just touched it really) decided to see if the alarm light was not when the key was in and it started. Any suggestions on what I should do to try and prevent the issue from happening again?

Sounds to me that your shifter wasn't fully engaged in Park (park/neutral safety switch) - of course with the process of the tow and jacking up the car - the shifter probably engaged itself in park.

If this should happen again - when you turn the ignition key to "run" - make sure the "P" is illuminated on the shifter - if not, shift to "N" - then start the car.

Thanks

That's my thinking also...but another question: The light is not on for park or drive even when working, all other gears light up all the time. Also neutral is close to drive when the light for "N" is lite.

Shifter cable stretched or loose? If it is, you'll have worse pain shortly if it's not fixed
