I recently went to change the coil in the 5th cylinder, and the bolt broke off, maybe from old age.

It was too late to call any auto stores to see if they have a replacement bolt, i'm hoping so. Any thoughts on if they carry them?

Also how exactly am I going to get the bolt removed? I believe majority of the bolt is in the coil and didn't break off at the end of it. I don't want to try yanking it out especially since I do not want to strip the thread. I also do not want to have to take it into a shop either. Any thoughts of how to get it out in my own back yard?

 

My thought is how much torque did you apply? If it was enough to break it then (apart from being wayyy too much) you need to get the remaining part unstuck (PBlaster or whatever it is out there?) before then trying to get the rest of the bolt out. There are bolt extractors to do that but I'm fairly sure you don't want to use one yet.

Someone with better knowledge please chime in! (This is the kind of nightmare I strive never to suffer. Gulp.)

 

Sounds like you will have no other choice than to use a small drill bit matched to an easy out screw extractor.

Go to any big box auto parts store and tell them what happened they will point you in the right direction.

* Also take a coil bolt that isn't broken with you for 2 reasons, the big box store have "help" replacement metric sized bolts AND you will know what size easy out will be needed. *

When you reassemble everything, it's probably a good idea to use an anti-seize compound spairingly on the threads, especially if the vehicle is driven on roads treated with brine or salt during the winter months.

Go to the auto zone. They have a nice little kit to take care of this. I just did the same thing on another car and this kit got it out for me. You have to be careful but it works. You will need a drill for it, pair of pliers and some muscle along with making sure when going into the bolt you go in very straight.
