Default 2002 s-type 3.0l v6 early 2002 model

Hello all,

My first thread attempt.

My wife and I have owned a 2002 Jaguar S-type since November 2001. When a problem occurs the engine light would come on and the code was read. This time I have a periodic hesitation once the car is warm. I had the sealed transmission fluid and filter changed about 6 months ago and the car ran great until 2 months ago when I noticed in gear at a stoplight especially with the air conditioner on a skip. It feels as if it is under my drivers seat.

Question: when changing the trans fluid is the refill 5 quarts? and with changing the filter 6.9 quarts? I changed the filter and only put in 5 quarts. I also read the problem could be low trans fluid, spark plugs, coils, fuel filter, fuel injector, fuel assembly. No engine light, no code.????

any ideas? Thank you

I'm unsure which trans you have - is your VIN (last 6) after or before M45254?

Or, does your gear (shift) lever go up to 4 or to 5?

The 5R55N is a Ford gearbox and there are instructions on the back of the transmission at the propshaft output plate.(check level at 30 to 50 degrees Centigrade)
I would recommend a shop that is familiar with Ford products service the gearbox!

Welcome to the forum.

The transmission fluid is not filled by adding a known quantity. It is filled to the top of a standpipe in the center of the pan. The level is checked with the transmission warm. More details in this recent thread:

The logistics can be a bit tricky. You've got to get the car level in the air, with enough room to get underneath. If you have a lift, you're ahead of the game. The rest of us mere mortals have to use four tall jackstands. Even that's a bit convoluted, as the rear lift points are also the only spot for jackstands.

Depending on your work facilities, you may find it easier to simply have the level checked at any competent transmission shop. The 5R55N in the early models is a variant of a very common Ford transmission. Any transmission shop would be familiar with the process.
