2002 s-type transmission problem-=delayed engagement
I have an 02 s-type that has delayed tranny engagement in forward and reverse..it takes a few seconds to go in gear..changed filter and fluid but did not help. Fluid looked nice and clean even before change. Can anyone give me advice on this symptom ...please!!!
Have a trans shop drop the valve body out and check it for signs it is starting to go. Normally that issue manifests itself as an issue changing gears, but still good to check. The other thing is have the torque converter checked. A failing one can produce that feeling from the trans.
There was info on this fault back in the early 2000s. I think it was an FAQ via EPQR and it was a series of shifts between D,R and N. I don't remember the sequence but I have a print-out of the procedure somewhere.
It did help a little but it is a known fault with the 5R55N gearbox.
