Default 2002 STR Factory HID Headlights

Thanks to Brutal for the tip on fixing my drooping headlights .. now done . The lenses are a bit misted even after t-cutting, the lights can go in the oven for a lense removal and thorough clean /polish if necessary . I can pick up standard S Type lamps very cheaply . I am tempted to get a set as a back up in case of alignment issues at the next mot . Would standard lights require major irreversible rewiring and would they set off warning lights. Alternatively could I fit a canbus friendly HID kit to a set of standard lights . All the info is on upgrading .I know this is a downgrade but I don't want to be without wheels while looking for super rare factory HID replacements at mot time !

I think you'll find fitting HID to standard will make the car fail C&U Regs and should fail MoT. (Also, you'd have to tell your insurer.)

Somewhat misted lenses don't seem to fail MoT.

Hi
Easiest option, is to strip your lights, replace the adjusters and give the lenses a proper cut and polish.
I did mine, one of the adjusters were broke, you can get kits off ebay, they fixed mine perfect, its a bumper off job, takes a good couple of hours, then used a 3m headlight restore kit and now the lenses look like new also
if its a STR with hid's, you can't fit standard lights easy, all the wiring is different and the connectors are all different
also if its a STR, do the lights still do the dance when you switch the ignition on, if not, you might also have a faulty front or rear level sensor
cheers
Joe

Thanks for that . The self levelling is still working thank gòodness. The adjuster kit on ebay ..is it for Jaguar STR or generic Hella ? I had no idea that they were available . That has to be the way to go . Whilst bumper is off I can replace the washer fluid sensor !

Another vote to fix the adjusters.

Report back if you can on how it went. With the age of our cars this is now a commonly needed repair even with Brutal's screw trick!

Will do . The screw trick has worked well on one which only had the top mount broken so it pivoted back into position with the screw. The other one had top and bottom pins broken and was flapping about . It is now pinned up by the screw and is useable ..just not confident that the aim is bang on. I have ordered the adjusters for £25 on ebay and will post how I get on.
