Default 2003 Jaguar S type R won't crank

Hello, I am new to the forum and need help with my 2003 Jaguar S Type R. I did a motor swap over the past 2 weeks and after finally getting everything put back together last night I tried to start it. It turned over about 5 times, tried to start and then shut off. The following lights came on the dash as well: Boot open, Park Brake fault, ABS fault, Gear box fault, DSC not availible. To give you a little more info, the car has a new battery, and because the motor swap, it is still on 4 jack stands about 2 feet off the ground. I have tried the inertia switch, and checking all of the electronic park brake fuses. After research, my best guess is the alarm system is preventing it to crank because after the first time I tried cranking it, it did not allow me to crank it any more. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated so I can avoid the dealer. Thanks!

Does anyone know how to reset the alarm system so I can try to start my 2003 Jaguar S type R? Thanks!

I know you said you have a new battery, but please check it again. What you describe could be due to a weak battery. Running the starter motor several times in an attempt to start can certainly have weakened it at this point as well.

It does sound like a flattened battery. Might you have had the ignition on for quite a period? Or cranked it too much? Failing that, maybe a bad earth/power connection.

You swapped the engine but kept ALL the main electronics modules? If you swapped any of them, you're probably in anti-theft.

I ran into a similar problem when I was hard wiring my radar detector to the electrochromatic rear view mirror. I had the ignition on the on position for lOng period of time and then when I went to crank it; no luck, thought the battery drained but I had second thoughts and I discounted the negative terminal for few mins than I reattached it back it cranked right up! Try dc neg terminal for few mIns then reconnect, our jags are very electrical sensitive to anything, might just need a good reset to work, let us know what happens. GOod luck.

Can I ask what you paid for he new motor? How hard was it to do less the curren issues? Why did you have to replace the motor?

Good question. How much mileage on your original STR motor and what failed to necessitate the swap?

Ok, so I have great news!!! I guess today was just my lucky day because I went in the garage, turned the key and it fired right up! After almost 3 weeks of doing the motor swap it worked! All the fault lights on the dash went away except the "gear box fault" but I am sure its because the transmission is low on fluid sense I have not filled it back up yet. Ok, so to answer some questions about the price/milage of the new motor and why I had to do the swap in the first place... My 2003 STR has 84500 miles on it and the original motor had a slight knock in the bottom end between 1800-2000 RPMs. I did not feel like rebuilding it and dealing with trying to find parts from United Kingdom to repair such a rare motor so I took a sure bet. After doing a VERY extensive search, I got lucky and found a motor at a junk yard in TN with only 30K miles on it. The motor came with a 6 mo warranty all for $4300. They originally wanted $4900 but after it arrived I complained about the front timing cover and valve cover being busted so they discounted it $600. lol From start to finish, I would have to say the motor swap was seriously not that bad. It took me 3 weeks because I am in the military full time so I could only work on it on Sat/Sun. I had alot of help from my father in law whos been a mechanic for over 20 years so that made life easier. For those of you who may want to tackle a motor swap in the future, the best advice that I can give you is go on TOPIx - TOPIx and you can learn anything and everything you want to know about any jaguar. That website is a step by step instruction on how to perform any service. For lack of better terms, "ITS F**KING AWESOME!!!" After the motor swap, I can honestly say that I know my STR better now than I have ever known any car.

Did you ever find out how you made it turn on? What was causing the no crank?

I wouldn't expect a response from the OP as his last recorded post the the forum was in August 2012...
