Question 2003 STR won't pull OBD codes

Hello,

I'm having an issue with my 2003 STR just hit 106,xxx Mil. The "Restricted Performance" and engine light came on while driving this week on the highway.

The restricted performance went off and engine light stayed on.

So I hooked up 3 different OBD scanners up and all of them came back with link error message. Not sure what the issue is, but any advice would be much appreciated!!

Has anyone else experienced this problem??

Default Fuses

I have checked all fuse boxes. None of them were blown.

Sorry meant to add that info to post!

Thanks!

In my experience, different scanners don't come back with the same message unless really they're not different. Sounds like a consistent fault. In what way are the scanners "different"? In what way are they the same?

AutoZone etc will read the codes for free

I used 1 scanners from the local parts store that has the ISO 9141 system not sure what the manufacture was and the 2nd scanner was an universal from a local repair shop and the final one was a scanner designed for Toyota that I tried, but I figured that one wouldn't work. The other 2 scanners were universal.

They should come back with different errors. Different devices just don't give the same errors.

Suppose you had a faulty connector/wiring / blown fuse: you'd get different error messages (and unable to read codes).

We've got lots of members with STRs on here, all happily (well, unhappily) reading OBD as needed. If you can't get a free read grab your own OBD tool - elm327 is $10-upwards. It's a great, cheap, no-nonsense device and works on every car I've tried it on including my 2004 STR.

If you're in a hurry it can't be too costly to get a dealer to read codes.

Don't give in - you can get codes

We'll need the true code, not just its supposed meaning (especially if it starts P1).
