Default 2004 s type key question

Hi hopefully someone can help with this question

my 4.2 v8 key fob has broken I mean the circuit board inside
so remote will not lock / unlock or open boot
can I just replace the circuit board I can still start & lock /unlock car with key
as I have read some stories where they say it needs to be reprogrammed
I also own the kd 900 key programmer
but never used it
I live in new Zealand and car is the new Zealand new European version not USA or Japanese import
as there are a lot of Japanese import s types over here
so all I need to know is can I just change the circuit board to get buttons on remote to work
thanking you
Darrol

I was just thinking since the transponder chip was in the front part of key where key blade is and car starts fine I could possibly just change the circuit board and Synchronize the key fob

ya unfortunately theres a a programming mode to set up each one. And you need two keys to do it. As I found the hard way. I couldnt even trick it to program one key twice for the second key
