An excellent How To Do. However, on my car, a 2003 S-Type, I have two clips that seem to have come of the tire wells. Anyone know what they are actually called and where they go?

I did this before but never thought to meticulously illustrate the removal process as JoycesJag did.

Many thanks goes to you Veteran..

You're an asset in here!!

Here is the pic of the two clips. I do remember (though I cannot find), a comment made of some clips while working on removing the bumper of the car. Incidentally, this is off a Jaguar 2003 S-Type BASE.

I am searching my memory banks, even on Joels '03 S Type when I worked on it, I do not recall those clips. I did not have the front bumper skin off, I did have the inner wheel wells removed.

Sorry I cannot be of futher assistance.

I think they fit in the groove in a block of plastic that serves (well, is intended to, anyway) to clamp the fender and fascia together near the wheelwell. I had the whole mess off our 2003 Base a coupla years ago and had a bum-seam in that area and recall finding a plastic block adrift in there, and similar clips clinging to a bit of lip on fascia/fender (wing!) interface and I took them off and refitted them to the block, which is then fixed to the inner liner by an M6 if memory serves...unfortunately, I, like Dimension, had not yet been schooled in the Joyce'sJag photodocumentation graduate course....

Is there a screw hole in each clip? Just in one side? (Peering at the pics....)

if the ones I'm trying to remember...no holes..they slide into a groove in the plastic block, and clamp onto lips on wing and bumper fascia. Screw hole is in plastic block and I said it backwards above....screw is actually for fixing wheelwell liner to block, block is clutching onto body-bits like a long-haired, teenage rock climber in a Top Gear episode...

I have those clips too. They clip on to the plastic block that is bumper is bolted to just the other side of the wheel arch liner.

So when you take the 10mm bolt off that holds the corner of the bumper on (near the side markers), that clip also needs to be pulled off. But this could be different on the 2005+ cars.

Thanks for mentioning the headlamp washers in this thread. Just about to remove the bumper cover, surely would have been doing a repair to the washers next. Thanks

Many thanks, Rick! Just a couple of points regarding the '99-'03 S-Type. The outermost bolts you refer to "down there" don't seem to have anything to do with the bumper skin on the older models. However, there are a pair of 10mm bolts inside the front wheel-arch, that are going to be impossible to work with without a ratchet spanner. The front wheel-arch liners on the '99 only have two T30 fasteners to remove.

Thank you Rick for posting this how to, it was incredibly useful when I recently changed my bulbs.

If you have xenon bulbs and are looking for a short walk through, I typed up a brief overview on the Hints, tips and tricks page (page 4, post 73).

Hi. Thanks for the diy. Very useful.
For those with headlight washers, I wrapped a shop towel over a flat heat. Then coming in from the center of the car, gently work it loose. One side popped out easy, the other needed a little more jiggling.

Also, for me there was one more step. You need to remove a bolt on the inside of the bumper, behind wheel well on each side.

Pull cover back a bit and the bolt is where I have the socket wrench.
This is picture on passenger side

Somster, thanks for posting up the above pic. That is the one I stated as "tricky" under the first picture of the "tools needed".

I was thinking of starting a bumper thread to get an answer to a question I have.

What type of plastic are our bumper covers made out of?

I am getting ready to start widening my bumpers to match my fender flares and am trying to figure out the best way to cut then either weld or glue them back together.

Rick, thanks.

Pics are always helpful!

I have taken most of the bumper cover off to replace my headlamps - this time - I'm taking the whole bumper cover off to replace with a pristine front bumper cover from a 39K mile car! (Looks better than my original w/ 215K miles)

Thanks for this thread; I'm headed to a salvage yard now in hopes of removing the front bumper assembly. Thanks again.
