2005 S-Type sun visor options?
My visors are trash! The local shops don't repair this type. I wonder if I can find a replacement option at a local salvage yard from a newer car with similar mounting and dimensions? I'm hoping someone has already done this? It needs to be a brand available in the U.S.

I hope you find one! I finally gave up on my 2005 S Type R and purchased the very expensive factory units.
Don't waste your time on used. Very low odds of finding anything worthwhile.

I assume you're referring to the common breaks and cracks in the mirror assembly of the visor? Would be tough to find a foreign visor that fits. Perhaps something from another Jaguar? But as clubairth1 mentions, used would be a likely problem.
Originals are not a strong plastic design in any part of the mirror assembly and I've repaired it three times now; one more original plastic lug left to break!
Plenty of design problems but it is usually the tiny pivot lugs of the mirror cover door that just snap off.
The casing where the metal clips sit in cracks and super glue will work here and keep the metal clips in place. As for the lugs, I drill a small hole where the plastic lug always breaks off and mount a similar size tiny bolt in the hole. Making sure it bites nicely in the drilled hole. Then I grind just the tip of the protruding bolt head off first so I can heat melt some electrical shrink tubing over the bolt threads. Then grind off the bolt to match the original plastic tabs length and profile.

The Lincoln LS is old and kind of rare, I'll keep it in mind but hoping to find newer style and condition.

Hmmm any upholsterer boat/car should easily be able to sew new covers. I had a place that a chair/sofa sew our new visor covers.
Yes, can retrim of course as joycesjag mentioned, which is not a bad option as the original factory foam under the fabric would have well deteriorated by now; some of the Jaguar foam was such poor quality. But tough to get new trim fabric to match the old probably well UV bleached (by now) old fabric on roof and pillars etc. I'm replacing the whole roof lining along with badly UV bleached A pillars and will have to do the visors as well..
joycesjag you would think so but I have found the upholstery shops I talked to don't like to do them. I had a set done for my old 1959 Thunderbird after I told the lady that I wanted her to try anyway. As you can imagine when your 60+ years out almost nothing survives except the metal and small bits of rubber, upholstery and paint!

Then fix all the broken mechanical stuff which on any late model car will mostly be plastic and rotten. Then copy the material pattern and fold the new material over the visor and attach using spray glue. Now here is where things fall apart!
The seam where the material comes together is folded together and either glued or heat seamed together. I just can't figure out a way to make that seam look right? I have seen a visor that the board was also split in half and then you had an edge to fold the material over on before gluing the two half's together. The T-Bird had vinyl molded visors stock that I had replaced with headliner material which looked and felt a lot better but they looked big and puffy in the car?
If you can post any pictures of redone visors that would be a big help!

Great advice, I found a pair that are perfect, even color match from a earlier model. I think 2001? They look like the earlier jaguar mirror wise but fit my 2005 fine.
