2006 S-Type not starting
I have a 2006 S type 2.7diesel auto that has started to display parkbrake fault and gear box fault on dash and not turn over, if you persevere long enough it eventually starts and runs fine, but if i leave key in and park brake doesnt automatically apply it starts first time every time, any ideas? The AA have checked battery and say its good
Many thanks

For the symptoms you state I'd be looking into cleaning grounds and swapping relays.
Not exactly your situation... but I had a no-start condition that had me chasing battery and fuel supply. Turned out to be a relay **that bench tested good**.

Hello Darren,
Welcome to the forum. We will be glad to help, but I'd like a little more info. You said the engine would not "turn over". Can you please clarify exactly what happens?
I've heard that phrase used to describe a starter problem, such as cranking very slowly (or not at all) when you turn the key. Other people have used the same phrase to describe the starter cranking at a normal speed, but the engine won't run on its own after you release the key from the start position. Big difference in troubleshooting, so please let us know which scenario you have.
For the parking brake message, low prestart voltage is a common culprit. This could also be a factor for the transmission message and starting problem. More details here:

In a nutshell, you need to see at least 12.6 volts at the battery before start. This is a VERY high standard. Even if your battery passed the typical test at a shop, it still may not meet this standard. Connect it overnight to a charger and retest. A trickle charger won't cut it. You'll want an automatic charger with at least a ten amp output.
