Default 2007 S-Type 4.2 -- Concerns If Purchasing?

I am a new guy to the forum but not to Jaguars. My intro is posted in the New Member Area.

Have been between Jaguars for three years. Currently, negotiating to buy a 2007 S-Type 4.2 (one owner / 21,000 miles).

Previously owned a 2007 S-Type 4.2 which I bought in 2007 but sold in 2010. During the three years (13,000 miles) I owned it, it had no issues.

So I am clueless on what, if any, maintenance issues may have surfaced for the 2007 S-Type over the past six years.

Would appreciate hearing from forum members about any maintenance and or reliability issues they have encountered with their 2007 or 2008 S-Types.

Thank you,

Captbob73

2007-2008 were pretty much identical to 2003 and up models from a mechanical point of view.

Here's a complete list of expensive show-stoppers I've had on my 2003:

Hope this helped.

Probably they suffer from battery needing replacing about every 5-8 years. DCCV, also, I guess. Then depends if you get lucky or not as there are plenty of things that MIGHT fail (but tend not to).

That's very low miles so it's not really been driven enough and that can cause problems on any car. They're better if driven more.

One of my good friends has a 2007 4.2 and put about 60k miles on it. The only complaint he had thus far was the coolant expansion tank. But, that's actually pretty common problem in all of these cars...and not a big expense...

JagV8 -

Thank you. Agree that the car needs to be driven to keep the gremlins at bay.

There's a 10-year difference between your 370Z and the XK. If the 370Z's tech package (I don't know what it has, but maybe navigation, audio connectivity, backup camera, and all the other whizbang safety and tech stuff) is important to you, you won't be satisfied with the XK. But if classic British design, materials and workmanship wrapped in a sexy body that still gets admiring comments and drives as good as it looks is more important, go for the XK.

The economics favor the XK, as the lion's share of depreciation has already happened. Your 370Z is just starting to depreciate. What do you think each will be worth five years from now? The money saved in depreciation probably can pay for the XK's repairs.

Comparing the 370Z and the XK is like comparing apples and oranges. There's probably at least a $30K difference in the original MSRP.

Your money, your choice .

Default I have 2008 S-Type 4.2

I have a 2008 model with 116,000 miles. Mine is still a great car although I have had the normal wear items. I juskt did the rear wheel bearings and one front bearing this week. Check the brake booster for rust as it may be unrelated to mileage and is an expensive item to replace. The car goes like stink and is a pleasure to drive. For me mine is my winter beater when the XK8 is put away. Also check the sills, you can't see the sills under the plastic covers; again another non miles related issue.

Maybe maybe rubber suspension items. Because of age degradation. I am in the process of replacing most of my rubber suspension parts because of that factor. My car is 12 years old with no major clunks or bumps but when I inspect the rubber bushings they all show age wear

I wondered what happened to my reply, as it wasn't in the X150 thread where I replied (or where I thought I posted it). I'll copy and paste it where it belongs.

How did it get here? Well, in their ultimate wisdom, the Forum added a new feature "Related Threads" at the end of the X150 thread. I reply from my cellphone and didn't realize that when I scrolled to the end of that XK/XKR thread to reply that it took me to a different forum in that related thread.

Default Is this the same car?

captbob - is this the same car that was purchased on Bringatrailer -

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...onvertible-13/

if so, do you currently own the car or if not, who it was sold to? I am the original owner of the car and wanted to speak to the current owner. Please DM me on here. Thank you.

Wow that is low milage. Does the condition match the milage? If so I'd just buy it. I'd plan on servicing everything (its now an old car regadless of milage). So new coolant, oils, filters, tires... I bet all the suspension dust boots are toast .... Then drive it for a few months, and fix all the issues that will arrise (there will be issues), eg: A/C not working, heater not working etc ....

Once you have used it for a bit, I reckon it'll be routine maintenance for years!! If I could find such a low milage V8 Stype, it would already be parked in my shed (Its just a crying shame you can't get one with a proper gearbox!).
