Default 3.0 synthetic oil ?

Hello all,

The owners manual for my 2003 S-type 3.0 states that synthetic oil is not recommend. The previous owner commented that all he used was synthetic. Should I continue to use the synthetic ? Or revert back to conventional?

Thanks, Brian

Whichever you like. Dino oil is fine and often cheaper.

Whichever makes you feel better.
I have synthetic in mine, no idea what the previous owner did.

I run conventional Castrol 5W-30 oil in ours and change it every 6,000 miles along with the oil filter. Going on 72,000 trouble-free miles now....

Thanks!, I just was a little weary of changing back & forth & also with the comment in the manual about not using synthetic's.

Jaguar have changed their recommendation since your manual was printed. They now include a range of synthetics.

As others have said, use what you like within the listed specs.

Regular premium oil and filter change is more important than dyno / synthetic choice.

Isn't 'revert back' similar to a double negative which means that you'd just continue using the synthetic?

Engine manufacturers will often not recommend synthetic oil due to the users extending their milage between changes. I use "syn" oil in everything. Syn oil is not synthetic oil, it is the best modules of the base petroleum.
I think it provides several advantages, better performance at low and high temps, it sticks to the walls longer than dino for vehicles that don't necessarily run every day.

Oh, and don't exceed the oil chsange interval as recommended by the manufacturer.

No need to close the thread. The correct advice on this topic, as frequently stated, is simply to run whatever decent-quality oil makes you happy. Just change your oil and filter at a reasonable interval and you'll be fine....

I have always used synthetic oil in everything i owned, and pretty much stick to change intervals of 4500 to 5500 miles. even use synthetic 2 cycle oil in my single stage snowblower, use the synthetic 2 cycle racing oil in my snowmobile and outboard motor. seems to keep their spark plugs working better for longer.

My oil cap states that "Jaguar recommends Castrol 5w30". I haven't experienced a problem in what, 14 years.

I use Eneos oils in all my cars now, as nothing beats japanese stuff...
i cant remember the exact ford approval for the 3.0 engine, i will check later and i will be back.
make sure the oil you will use has detergents to clean the sluge and vvts.
mobil 1 is very cool and good too. their tests are on youtube and their oils are incredible.

I use either Amsoil or Royal Purple in everything. Think the shop that installed the motor used Mobil One, wish I would have thought about it and put the 6 quarts of Amsoil in the front seat so they would have used that instead, but Mobil One will have to do for now.

+1 on this. Simplify. Everything gets 5-30 synthetic at 5000 miles. Always with Wix XP or Purolator One. I don't make four different mix ratios for my two stroke stuff either.

FORD WSS M2C913-A or B (C and D are newer compatible versions) is the oil spec/approval you are looking for. modern oils have detergents too, very good to prevent slushing
