4.0 compression test
...the other night i did a compression test on the s type and i got steady readings on all cylinders except the last cylinder on both banks. Is there a special procedure on how to do it on this particularcar or should i just accept that i have internal damage or possibly a bad head gasket for those cylinders.
any help is greatly appreciated.

RE: 4.0 compression test
the lowest was 145 and 165 being the highest. I did a compression test because ive had a misfire issue for quite some time and when a friend of mine hooked up his scanner, it said it had a random misfire(all cylinders) I turned the car on just the other day and it ran like crap. i pulled the plugs and are fouled as they had oil on the side. coils might need replacing but valve cover gaskets for sure. I ask because i got 0 reading on the last cylinder on both sides. ill try a wet test tommorow see how that goes

I've read somewhere here (you may want to do a search) where a guy had the same problem, turned out the valve covers were leaking and fouling the plugs....he replace gasket and coils...ran like new....
Honestly, 165-145..that's not bad...what's the book say for the max differance

RE: 4.0 compression test
I am having a misfire issue at present. About every 15-20 seconds when the car is stopped. I am suspecting a compression issue as well.
How did your situation turn out?
2000 Jag S Type 4.0
90k miles.
Past problems:
Compass in rear view mirror went out (fixed under warranty)
Drivers side window would not roll up (fixed under warranty)
2x thermostat went out (under warranty)
Not bad for 7 years and 90k miles!
Now I'm out of warranty
