Question 4.2 V8 Naturally Aspirated Engine Question

Hi. I have a 2004 facelift S Type with the 4.2 V8 n/a engine.
Unfortunately the bottom end went while I was driving it hard and put a rod through the block!

I have managed to find another engine from the same year although it is from an X350 XJ

I believe it is the same engine and should be able to fit into the S Type? I believe some parts are different on it - looks like the thermostat housing is different. Would I be able to transfer parts from my S Type engine to go onto the XJ engine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ryan

The engines in the X350 and the X202 are essentially the same, any differences are bolt-on parts only, not problem to fit the XJ engine in your car.

Thanks Cambo. Just what I wanted to hear as I took the plunge an hour ago and bought it! £560 delivered 3 months warranty full service history up to 70k engine is on 72k with all previous mot's! Think I got a good deal there!

I see you are down in Sydney now, beautiful place I hope you are enjoying it there.

32C in some places in the UK right now, says it might hit 37C later!!! Beer garden might be too hot!

Oh Ryan, ha sorry mate I didn't even look at the username I just answered the post... LOL

Yeah you got a good deal there bloke, sounds alright.

Yes I live in Sydney now, the X-Type couldn't come with me but the XJR made the trip down.

Some heatwave you're having!

Default Sv8 engine into x350

I am trying to determine the specific parts that do not fit when swapping a 4.2 from a rusty sill S type into a x350. Early engines prior to the 2006 changeover in both cases
i think
thermostat housing
alternator bracket
inlet manifold
which isn’t too bad
but is the bed plate the same??
can anyone whose done it comment please??
