This car was given to me as a wedding present brand new in 2004 from my parents so means a lot to me

The town i live in there are only 5 stypes 4 are v6s
the 4.2 v8 and the type R are very rear in New Zealand
I did find one engine in New Zealand used and was 10 k
Plus shipping
Bringing a used engine in from uk was around 9k to 11 k
Due to shipping costs and taxes and all the paperwork

Then you don't know what problems you could have
Example could get it and have low compression
Leaking headgaskets and so on
so would still have to strip down

At least i know all parts in my engine are brand new
And I'm not going to have any problems

Thanks
Darrol

Ok i found a 4.2 na same year as mine for $250 + ecu + harness. Did this before with the v6. Ill clone the immobilizer and voila.
question is, will the v6 version Zf6hp26 do well with the v8? The bell housing is different for once, and also the torque converter i think is different. What would be the worst case scenario? Could the torque converter get burned from the brutality of the v8(na)?

thanks a lot!

I hate to tell you, but a Jaguar mechanic told me a long time ago that the internals and software of the transmissions are different for each engine. STR is different from NA V8 too. If you can get the trans that went with the motor you bought, it will probably work better and longer than a V6 one. It might be good to double check though.

completely agree. Thats why i want to find a crashed full donor car. 🫡 i tested that aforementioned engine and i found compression issues on 2 cylinders, so im still looking

To explain this in more detail: The MY engine has to be mated with a matched transmission. This is usually done via the VIN number series. It is not that the transmissions are physically/mechanically different, but that the control modules inside the transmissions are programmed to work the the programming of the ECM for a particular engine. (Shift points- combinations of rpm and torque that determine when the trans will up or downshift.
I am talking about the ZF 6HP26 transmission series.

Same transmission was used in all of these cars. The primary difference being the TCM/programming.

Good post Tijoe, so many cool cars to click on, besides info. For the project, a full donor car is the way to go, if you have the space for it. You could even sell parts, at least in theory. If can have the right set up, it would be nice to leave the motor and trany together and put in as one piece.
