Hey y'all:
so, as many of you have seen on another thread, I'm looking for a replacement motor.
I'm wondering if anyone has a summary of what does and doesn't interchange?
My car is an '03 STR.
I am assuming that the 4.2L N/A short or long-block is NOT interchangeable, as I'm sure the S/C model has lower compression.

But how about the XJR motors? Or others? And from year to year? Assuming I'm using all the peripherals from my car (S/C, accessories, pulleys, etc etc), what can I be shopping for?

 

Yes, 03, 04, 05 4.2 s/c STR, XKR, and XJR are interchangeable *except for XKR intake. In 06 the 4.2 came with electronic variable cam timing.

 

What happened?

 

The blower failed, causing catastrophic engine failure. This also happened to Mafioso (Luigi).
