I'm sure it's good, I'm on a less than stellar internet connection for now so I'm not going to attempt to look.

 

Once downloaded and installed you don't need an Internet connection, just download it over night, it's a little over 5gig

 

That would need more than one night on this connection!!

 

Once I figured out MediaFire downloads, then followed all the installation instructions including creating firewall rules and editing the Windows "hosts" file - daunting tasks for non-computer geeks - AllData opened and ran without a hitch. It contains a huge amount of useful info about our cars.

The recall notices alone are worth the time and effort. Did you know the ZF6HP26 Trans for MY 2003-04 was recalled for "Incorrect Gear Selection". It seems the tranny may jump from 1st, 2nd or 3rd into Reverse all by itself. AllData contains detailed info on this recall (Recall Action 513); the fix requires TCM reprogramming. Other recalls are listed too.

I highly recommend downloading and installing ALLDATA if you're serious about knowing your S-Type and its issues/fixes.

FYI - the download was slow, even with my ultra high-speed broadband connection. I couldn't help wondering if MediaFire intentionally chokes the download process. As Police666 says, download it overnight.

Imagine how long it took me to upload it at 1mbps. Lol.

I have it running without problems by just blocking it using my firewall, I didn't bother adding the entries to the hosts file but included the info in case of issues.

Mediafire probably do throttle the downloads as I'm not using their paid for services.

Alldata, along with jtis and jepc should provide you with enough info to do anything on your car.

If anyone is unsure about editing their hosts file just Google how to.

Adding Windows firewall rules was more tedious and super-techie than I expected. The average computer user may give up at this point.

Editing the hosts file was a good call to keep the program from going out to the internet. Nicely done.

Nor am I. I signed up for the free service and even downloaded/installed their desktop app hoping to speed the process up. Not sure it helped.

Yes, I'm mustering the courage, and time, to install them per your instructions.

No account required at all, just click on the link then the pick the file you wish to download, the problem with a torrent is if no one is seeding it no one can download it.

 

Regarding the windows firewall, to make things simple I use a firewall control program, every time a program attempts to connect to the Internet for the first time this stops it and asks if you want to allow it or deny it access to the Internet. Simple. No need to add rules to Windows firewall, this program does it for you based on your allow or deny response. I use this free version Windows 8 Firewall Control: Sphinx Software

thats one option but you dont have to, start by downloading the install instructions. (they will guide you through it)

you place the un conpressed data folder on your c drive (or anywhere you want it) and the alldata program will read it from there (instructions in the instructions pdf)

Yes. I got those adverts too. I just x-ed out of them. I too suspect MediaFire, or any site that throws so many pop-ups and fake "Download Now" buttons at you, is not being forthright and therefore suspicious. I'm afraid that's the way of the world today on the free internet.

But ultimately, I was able to download and install the files per police666's instructions and my anti-virus did not flag them or the MediaFire site as dangerous. In the end it all works well and is a very useful tool.

But you're very smart to be so cautious.

 

Download the files to your hard drive if you have the space. Then delete the downloaded files from your drive AFTER you're done the installation and everything is working to your satisfaction. Simply follow the installation instructions and be patient, and all will work great.

Yes, if you don't have lots of free hard drive space then downloading the files to a dual-layer DVD disc would work as an alternative. A standard single-layer DVD discs doesn't have enough space to store over 5 GBs of files.

An even better alternative might be to download them to a thumb drive or SD card (if your system can read these). An 8GB thumb drive would work nicely. IMHO these storage devices are much more convenient than burning to a DVD. BUT, this is still not as convenient (or fast and efficient) as downloading the install files directly to your PC's hard drive and running the install process from there.

 

Re media fire site.

I use chrome with ad blocking extension, (or Firefox with the same) and I have an extensive hosts file blocking nearly all malicious and advert servers and sites so didn't get or see any popups.

my laptop hosts file, i'm not sure exactly how many entries it has (its about 170,000) but it consists of half a million characters, so its quite extensive.

my pc and phone hosts file merged has more than double the entries. (ive included this as i normally connect to the net via my phone (i get 9-10mb connection through my phone and 3mb via my crappy adsl)
