Another Transmission Issue

12.3 volts when cold is not the best indicator - I had my battery load tested and it passed and you know what... I tested each of the 6 cells and 2 of them were toast!
So much for the load test...
These cars demand peak battery performance - anything less your asking for issues. How old is your battery?
I had to re-read through this thread again to become reaccliminated... before proceeding any further if my vehicle (trans) was in this prediciment - I would find a shop willing to get the fluid AND pan/gasket/filter and sleeve changed... this was pointed out in the beginning of this thread.... If your pan/filter is clogged all the fluid changes in the world is not going to do any good and I hate to break the bad news but that fluid change could have complicated the issues you are experiencing now...

Try this and tell me if you still have a shifting problem. Put the car in 4th and not “D” and see if it shifts better. You do not need to go through the shifter 1st to 4th it will do that automatically so drive in 4th only for a few days. I did this to mine and to date is shifting just fine leading me to believe it is a control issue outside the trans.

Update:
Restricted performance/ gearfault on dash yesterday upon turning car on while still in park.
So far:
Cottman stated valve body issue
Jag: flashed tcm and flushed transmission. Code P 1643 , something to do with Can?? Jag thinks ECU or TCM issue
Aamco-- Pulled pan, small amount of metal shavings. Gear fault light did not give code for them to pull this am when test driving. They agree seems like low on fluid, believe it may be leaking seal inside tranny. Complete rebuild 5,000
Fustrated, may just trade it in

Just when through this witn my 03 STR... My trans was toast, metal shavings in the pan, hard 1-2 up and 2-1... Started hunting for gears going from 3-4 and 5-6, got worse as time went on.
Finally took the car into the shop (Danco - Cincinnati Local Trans Shop Marty is a great guy to work with) They took it apart and found the valve body was shot, kaput No Good! Turns out that the valve body they put in our cars in 2003 was changed out (for obvious reasons) in 2004+ so only our model year has this absolutely garbage valve body.
I had the TC replaced whole trans rebuilt front to back new improved valve body and was out of comission for about 5 days while they worked out the bugs with reprogramming and flashing the TCM to match all the new fiddley bits.
Grand total out the door was $4800 but at least its covered for the next 24 months...
I hope you get to the bototm of it, these are great cars, but your mileage is just about where mine was when it stared to nickle and dime me to death. As of now I have an almost brand new 2003 STR...
Sorry you are having the same trans issues I just went through, but dont count the old girl out yet!! It is a big investment but you just cant find another car like these ones for $5k!!
Good Luck!!

Sounds like you are on the road again. Keep us posted on the driving results. My trans has a 3yr warranty but I am 250mi from him and I am trying to identify the issue before I waste his and my time.

Very interesting comment about the 2003 having a different valve body? Don't know if it's true as Brutal and other Jaguar techs have not mentioned it? I wonder if this has anything to do with the short shifting problem the 2003 STR's seems to have?
When you got the car back did it shift at red line (6100 RPM)??
Looking at the JEPC, as normal Jaguar made changes based on serial numbers and NOT on year of production. There are a number of different valve bodies (at least 4 separate part numbers). Do you have the part number that was installed?
I would be worried about using a part unless Jaguar has given the OK to replace it with a different part number??
The JEPC has some amazing prices in it!! List for the valve body or more properly the "Mechatronic Valve Assembly" is $5239!!! No that's not a misprint! Over $5K for a valve body.

You bring up some interesting points. I think you are probably spot on with the serial number grouping and NOT the model year. My STR was manufactured in May of 02 so must have been one of the earlier 2003 models best I can figure.
I know the Valve Body was a "PITA" for my mechanic to source. Although nothing like the $5200 jaguar quote, YIKES!! We ended up sourcing it from a Jaguar specialist out in New Jersey (I am not sure the name but if interested PM me and I can get it from my mechanic) He told us that there were inherant issues with my particular 2003 STR Valve Body (he didnt specify a specific serial number grouping) and that this new one should cure all of the issues I was having with the lurch and the low RPM shifting.
Now to answer the bigger and more pressing question... Absolutely, now when you "get on it" she will run up to right around 6000K on the tach before shifting.
It definitely is like a whole new car now. I will be going back to see the trans guy here in a few hundred miles and I will see if I can get more info about the replacement valve body (part Number etc), maybe he is really on to something here, not sure but hey it seems to have cured the issues that have plagued me for the last 75K miles!!

Well the saga continues. I have been driving the car since Friday with the "cold transmission issue". Once warm drives well. However this am, restricted performance came again. This time Transmission fault and Brake fluid low.
No change in brake pedal, actual drove to work.
Maybe just change the battery...
The last restricted performance --gearbox fault--did not give a code.
How Do I reset???
