Electronic failures in the TCM are not something you hear about very often. Most problems are mechanical wear in the hydraulic system.

Do you have any other communication faults? My first suspicion would be an issue with the CANBus network, which should affect a number of components.

How often has it happened?

If it keeps happening you're most likely looking for a bad connector or chafed wire, but if it's just once then ignore it.

But... always check the battery!!!!!!! A failing battery throws weird codes and you'll swear it's good because it starts the car - worst "proof" imaginable.

What is it?
I just bought the car, battery was partially discharged, I charged it and most codes disappeared. There were probably 20-30 codes from different systems, now about 5-7 left.
Transmission is in limp mode because there is no communication from TCM.
Thanks for all responses. There is a chance just to have electrical problem, not mechanical transmission one. I know it is Ford V6 engine (Ford Contour, Mercury Cougar), hopefully it is Ford transmission.

On the back of the transmission you will see an electrical connector - make sure it is tight, snug and dry and not leaking transmission fluid onto the connector...

It's very unlikely to be a bad TCM so you're looking everywhere else first. But a false code from a below par battery is #1 suspect.
