I want to replace my stock CATS struts (front and rear), the active ones are really expensive and I think I can live without them. After some research found this device that promise get rid of electronic struts without the annoying messages and errors. Does anybody have any experience with such devices (I've been checking deep in the forum without any luck) or maybe just a 25watt 3.9-ohm resistor (as I found somewhere else) is enough?

The first thing to do is to make sure your original struts are no good.
They are known to 'weep' a tiny amount of oil that over several years can make them look like they are leaking.
Clean this all up, including under the plastic cover and then run them for a week or so and see if it comes back. The chances are it will not.
Then just check them from time to time and before any vehicle test.
